My question relates to building a list of people who want to learn about SEO (Search Engine Optimization). How to rank on Google's 1st page for their own targeted keywords. But I don't want to build a list from WF members because there are too many people here already doing the same things.

I'm wondering if some of the WF members have had success using PPV, Solo Ads, or other methods to build a "fresh list" of subscribers who are new blog owners and would like to know things like:

      1. How to use Free Google's Adwords tools to choose high traffic keywords?

      2. What are the best Wordpress plugins for SEO?

      3. What are the differences between Link Wheels and Mixed Backlinks?

      4. Does Article Directory Submissions still work?

      5. What are High PR Wiki Sites?

      6. Does Forum PR Linking still work?

      7. How has Google Panda & Penguin changed the rules for backlink building?

      8. What is the importance of "On-Site SEO"?

      a. How to do On-Site SEO?
      b. Is there really a Google penalty for duplicate content?
      c. Is there a penalty for automated content creation?

      9. Do .edu and .gov backlinks still provide a boost in the SERPs?

      10. How can Press Releases help with SEO and traffic generation?

Like I said, I'm not fishing for subscribers or customers here on the WF forum because their are just too many people here already doing the same thing.

I'm just looking for some fresh ideas from some open-minded people who don't mind sharing some ideas about how they would go about building a list targeted towards people who are looking for answers to the above listed questions.

It has been my observation that usually among any large group there's about 10% of the people who generally want to and are able to help. There's also about 10% who have absolutely have no clue and simply repeat what they hear else where. I wont say what I think about the rest.

But it's the 10% who have great ideas and are willing to share. That's who this question is for.

      Thanks for asking.

Thanks guys! According to forum rules I have to be very careful about self promotion.

This thread was created to get ideas about the best traffic generation methods for targeting brand new blog/website owners who want to know about what works and what doesn't following Google's new Panda & Penguin updates.

I started a group here on the WF. Join the group and post your questions there and I will try to help as best I can.

If there are people in here wanted to learn SEO for sure they don't want to raise their hands at you, why? because they hate sales call or unwanted emails.

Thanks! I already have a blog and it is on already on page one for my targeted key word. I'm really more interested in the best "paid traffic" methods, because SEO tends to actually bring "un-targeted visitors" to your site.

I got started with SEO several years ago to help my wife with her MLM business. I put about 60 articles on the blog and built a ton of backlinks. I used several tricks and ended up on page one along with the product that she was promoting.

At one point I was getting over 200 visits per day. Nearly all of them were "un-targeted" and just curiosity seekers. I was getting about 5 email subscribes per day with just an inline op-tin. I never use pop-ups, pop-unders or any kind of javascript that can be detected by google. I also never used any "automated content" because I knew that it would get a penalty from the "Google police."

It's actually pretty easy for me to get blogs on page 1 now after having worked on that project for a few years. But I would like to move into "paid list building" and so that is my new challenge

What on earth are you talking about that SEO traffic is untargeted?

It is one of the most targetted traffic sources you can ask for, people literally tell you what they want, spell it out to the letter.

Granted some keywords have different intent behind them than others, for example ranking for 'product name review' will make a lot less sales/conversion than ranking for 'product name deals' as the word 'review' signals a completly different intent than the word 'deals'

e.g. the person searching for review is still learning about the product/deciding which to buy but the person searching for 'deals' has decided which product they want and now want to buy it.

I have been working with SEO specifically for the last 5 years... and I have developing websites since 2002.

I have built over 30 sites from the ground up. I don't need a lecture on the capabilities of what SEO can and can not do.

What's your problem with SEO if you're such an expert?

        Okay... Here's the issue.

With SEO, you have to start with the URL as your keyword if you want to get more than 1000 visits per day. My goal is to get 10,000 visits per day with a combination of SEO and paid traffic.

For example, if I wanted to sell a weightloss product, I would need a URL something like "weightless.com" ... the reason being is that Google will show far more .com URLs than .net or .org. I'm not saying that the others wont show but everything in Google carries rating points.

If I used a "longtail keyword" like "www.weightlossforsinglemoms.com", I would actually get fewer visits than the shorter URL, "www.weightloss.com"

A really premium URL costs big $$$ for this very reason:

Next, after I have the domain name, I need to set up a blog. I could use just a website, it would actually be safer than using a blog, because lots of blogs use plugins that write to the .htaccess files. If anyone is using this type of plugin I would strongly recommend against it. Most websites are hacked via the .htacess. Blogs are especially vulnerable. One easy fix is the use the CHMOD command to make your .htaccess read only. That's usually the very first thing I do after creating a blog.

Then, I activate Akismet plugin for SPAM comment protection:

WordPress › Akismet « WordPress Plugins

After that, I load the All-in-one SEO Pack plugin:

WordPress › All in One SEO Pack « WordPress Plugins

        Here's a quick video tutorial:

All in One SEO Pack : WordPress Plugin Tutorial - YouTube

Then I set up my Meta tags, and make sure that the blog is SEO Optimized before I start off-site SEO.

Most people don't take care of this first, and are confused when they can't get their websites to rank. This part is actually far more important than backlinking because if you think of Google as a blind lady trying to cross the street, then you have to think of all the conversation needed to get her across safely. So, you need to give Google a lot of direction to find your website and to comprehend what your site is all about.

Generally I will use the adwords tools, or you can use SPYFu or several others to make sure that you have high traffic keywords... it's all about the traffic.

Then you need to get an absolute ton of relevant "keyword rich" on topic articles. This will satisfy the Google Panda and Penguin issues.

You can get articles from Odesk or right here on WF. I would stay strictly away from elance because they are way over-priced for what they deliver.

Next, I would start making and distributing videos and create "relevant backlinks," I would stay away from anything automated... other than a search tools... no automated backlinks or backlink farms. This is the surest way to get banned by the Google police.

I would also add press releases to the mix on a regular basis. Lot's of people overlook this, but press releases are not only good for book promotions, they are good for just about anything that you are offering as long as you are providing a "real value."

There are also various browser plugins that you can use on Chrome and Firefox to see if the backlinks you are building are "do follow." I personally think that .edu and .gov backlinks are pretty useless. What's really key is RELEVANCE post Panda.

Finally, I would provide "free ebooks" with links back to my website using document sharing websites like scribd and others.

All of this takes a huge amount of effort and still is not free if you want to speed things along. That's why I'm looking for reliable, quality, extremely targeted paid traffic sources.

For example, banner ads can be a great resource for getting targeting traffic, but the prices are almost ridiculous.

Email marketing typically targets highly competitive areas such are "male money online." Most of the emails received get marked as SPAM if they are not from a trusted source.

I have tried "Solo Ads" only to find their effectiveness very limited... Also, it is difficult to find a genuine trusted source that wont devour your ROI.

So... this is where I'm coming from

No, not true. Some obvious examples:

          about.com
          wikipedia.com
          ezinearticles.com

Should I go on? Sure, SEO terms are competitive AND for PPC very expensive. So, as a strategy, think OUTSIDE the box. This applies to PPC and SEO.

So what to do? In this case, think about your ideal client. Who is he/she? Why do they want to learn about SEO? Are they an Internet Marketer? Small business person? Store owner? Once you have a profile of the client you seek, you will know exactly what terms to use for SEO and PPC. Then, you will get LASER targeted traffic because you took the time to get into the minds of your ideal customers.

          Hope this helps.

I am continually amazed at how some people miss the simplest of points. Sure you can be fantastically successfully if you have major $$$$$$ to throw into a project. Maybe you can tap into some basic human need like Facebook and a handful of others.

Perhaps is doesn't bother you to sink big $$$$$ into a project year after year until all of your competition drops dead from exhaustion.

"Since 1996, About.com has continually maintained its relevance to users by routinely providing expert information on a large range of topics. About.com covers more than 88,000 topics and adds more than 1,600 pieces of new content each week."

About.com is clearly a large corporation and most likely started out with a great deal of funding. This a clearly a survivor of the dot.com boom and bust. How many people are willing to wait 16 years to become that successful.

"EzineArticles.com has been built one single article at a time, day after day, year after year for over a decade (we started November of 1999)."

In actuality, even after 13 years, Ezinearticles.com is not wildly successful. Google is showing fewer of their articles in the SERPS. I remember listening to an audio by Christopher Knight , founder of Ezinearticles.com where he talks about having invested heavily $$$$$$$ into three projects and Ezinearticles.com being the only property that was profitable and so he decided to put all of his eggs into that basket.

So, I guess what I'm saying here is that most people don't have that kind of funding as for the examples that you have provided... and you have missed my point in that ALL of these ideas that I have listed are a formula to getting 1000 visits per day. Even if all of them are used, they are not a guaranteed formula but they are the "best" formula around.
