I havent used doba, but i regularly use chinabuye and they offer a great service free of charge. They accept paypal and are 100% secure.
Another great site is DHGATE, although a few months ago they stopped using paypal - i think they were banned from the service for supplying non-authentic goods. But they now have a buyer protection program similar to escrow. You should try them out

    EDIT: Sorry i forgot to mention;
chinabuye also has free postage worldwide on all products - and the actual company chinabuye supplies the products
dhgate has free postage on most products, it depends on the seller. if you tick the 'free postage' option it will only display products which the seller offers free postage. on this site only buy from sellers who have a good feedback rating. that way you are safe

When Anna revived this old post I realized that I had somehow missed it, so I would like to comment on the post by zxboss in particular.

dhGate has a big list of unhappy buyers. See Ripoff Report | Scams, reviews, complaints, lawsuits and frauds. File a report, post your review. Consumers educating consumers.
Just enter dhGate.com in the search bar. In particular note the complaints about their "Buyer Protection (escrow)" scheme. I always read the fine print but in this case I gave up after chasing around the website to find the information piecemeal. I certainly found enough to know that anyone who relies on it is a supreme optimist.

chinabye is one of those sites where the supplier competes against their own customers, but they are so generous that they allow dropship resellers a whopping 1% discount. If you buy a large amount you could enjoy a discount of 3%.

The moral of the story is: Don't get carried away with what looks like low wholesale prices. Read the fine print.

Finally might I add that if you want real profits like landed cost X 250% or cost X 500% or more, you must buy from the manufacturers not from wholesalers. Where do you think the wholesalers buy from? Manufacturers - and you can too. That allows you to pocket the extra margin the wholesalers have added.

Not recommended at all. Personally, I have used their services for 13 or 14 days, before they begin to charge my debit card. I don't actually think you will find some products that will make you some decent amount of money monthly. Anyway, if you're thinking about giving them a try you can sign up for a 14 days trial instead of a 7 days. How ?

I used doba about 3 years ago and the products you are selling are over over saturated by other people trying to sell them. I say I would have more luck finding things at a garage sale to sell faster than the doba products. It is a great idea, but there needs to be a limited amount of people to sell certain products in order to sell the products quickly.

wmsclothing is a good dropshipper. I used them before. But the datafeed was having some issues while I was working. They have varieties. Their services will be particularly good, if you are a wholesaler. If you are going to have only clothing, you can try allurelingerie. There is also another official dropshipper of all brands of hanes - I don't remember the website address. As soon as I remember this website, I will update it.

I've used Doba before and I tested several products and while their drop shippers deliver on time, as many have posted - product saturation and eBay sellers under cutting you. Low profit margins. I have heard good things about World Wide Brands too. Anyways, I have had experience with dealing with vendors on AliBaba.com or EC21.com, if you are selling unbranded every day goods, you can get good deals and sell them well on eBay. Try to cut out on the middleman for better profits.

Any type of out-of-the-box dropship subscription, or broker list site is going to be the absolute bottom of the food chain and filled with bottom feeders. These are the guys who penny chase on eBay because they lack creativity and their only marketing skill is being the lowest price. And yes that is a generalization....and yes it is very accurate.

Take your time. Determine what niche you really WANT to pursue in your category (Clothing, Toys, Housewares etc.). Then do your market research to determine both the demand and the supply side competition.

If there is measurable demand and reasonable but not GOLIATH competition, there is probably some potential for entry.

Now, with your product line in your plan...head out and find your supplier. Search Google for manufacturers and wholesale distributors of your actual product. This step is called product sourcing. It can take days or even weeks to find the perfect relationship...don't use a once size fits all website or subscription or service.

When product sourcing, some of the things we search for in Google are "Find a Dealer" and "Dealer Locator" and "Where to Buy". Why? Because true wholesalers don't sell retail. If they have an "Add to Cart" button or if the "supplier's" site is also an e-commerce site...move on to the next one.

Legit wholesalers don't compete with their dealers in e-commerce or on eBay, Amazon etc. If they do...they are middle men and just looking for you to increase their sales, but couldn't care less about your success.

    Two more things:

Dropshipping should only be used for quickly testing products to market or filling up a site. Once you find a series of items that you can move, you should inventory them as soon as possible. Keep dropshipping around for testing and those filler items that sell sporadically. But shipping fast movers yourself will increase your profits quite nicely.

eBay, Amazon, Google and the million others should only be used as lead generators. Don't build your business as an "eBay" business. Use eBay to send you a buyer...but then convert that buyer to a client of YOUR brand. Use packing slips with your logo and a coupon or code that sends those buyers directly to your WEBSITE.

You can't send eBay shoppers to your website or email address, but you CAN send your eBay BUYERS to your site. Use those shopping platforms to build YOUR brand. YOUR list. That is your long term strategy!

    Good Luck!

Right on the money Gary! Agree with everything you say except the inventory part. It's actually just a matter of preference but I will always drop ship to keep everything automated. You are right in that you can make bigger margins etc. but my preference is moving on to more stores to keep it all on autopilot. Each to their own but some great points here!

The best bet is to contact manufacturers/distributors that are domestic and focus on a line of products catered to a niche that you are interested in focusing on. They may not have an advertised drop shipping program, but may be willing to negotiate with you.

This will involve speaking on the phone, possibly with several people, but could allow you to gain access to a line of products that others are not offering. Many smaller companies that sell only a few items are willing to do this for ebay, and other online sellers.

I personally have had success with this in the past. Although I haven't made millions, I have been able to access products that weren't flooding marketplaces, and was able to increase my margins by dealing directly with the manufacturers or importers.

If you are selling on eBay, or any online venue for that matter, I would stay away from sites like alibaba and DHgate for dropshipping. Your buyers will not be happy that the product is being shipped from overseas, and it will take them weeks to receive it. This will ultimately result in bad feedback, and you will never succeed. If you are interested in stocking your own products, these are great resources to find low priced items that may have demand within specific markets.

Hope this helps! I have had a lot of experience with dropshipping, and as others have mentioned, Doba, and other dropshippers are likely not even stocking all of their items. I believe them to be having the products dropshipped from manufacturers, so in reality they are just a hub for you to connect with many product lines, and they hike up the prices! Go DIRECT!

I started out in dropshipping and using a bad dropshipper eventually caused me to give it up. Getting ready to try it again. Learned a lot.

The best way to find a good one is word of mouth if possible. Can't research enough but find someone that has used the dropshipper you are thinking of using and talk to them.

A quick rundown of the numbers (which I teach in my eBooks) will quickly show you that their products do NOT show a profit.

Here is their pitch: "This is how much the item is FOR SALE for on eBay" and "This is how much we charge you for it"

What they don't tell you: "This is how much our dropshipping fee is" "This is how much we charge in shipping" "This is how much the item ACTUALLY SELLS FOR"

The problem with most dropshipping companies that are 'eBay certified' (meaning they paid eBay a fee to say that) is that they lure you in based on an 'MSRP'.

I will say this now: "Nothing on eBay has EVER sold for an MSRP... Never once, never ever, and never will."

Here another thing - No item ever sells at the MAP price either!

So one might wonder - can you ever do dropshipping on eBay then?

Yup... been teaching it for years. ... but you need to leverage yourself first.

Read my free eBook (they've been a pretty big hit on WF right now) and you'll get a pretty good foundation.

Believe me. .. Doba was pretty easy to pick apart. I signed up for a free trial, had their salesman call me.

He hung up on me after he said this: "Well, since you OBVIOUSLY have everything already figured out, it looks like we have nothing to talk about *click*"

    I just smile.

      The way my wife does it and does well at it is;

Go to AliBaba they connect you with the real sources in China, Thailand etc... You import and sell.
If you don't want to ship etc.. then you get a fulfillment company which are a dime a dozen.

This gives you the biggest profits.

If you are using this strategy, then you would have to put this in your 'cost to acquire' strategy as well.

But there is an issue with getting items from China wheras if you're getting name brand products, and accepting them into the US, you run the risk of violating parallel trade laws.

If you ARE going to get items from China/Thailand, there are strategies of getting your OWN product and getting it manufactured and sent to you VERY cheap (bypassing even wholesalers) and charging a lot. You just need to know what niches are being searched for.

Now that the eBay pulse tool is down - people are scrambling to find out where to find a tool.

As a hint? I blogged about it on my site.

See folks - I've been doing this for years - I know all the tricks and have been teaching people all of them. It's why I give out my foundational eBay eBook for free.

I promise I've made mistakes for you! EVEN THIS ALIBABA ONE!

I had my first eBay account banned for a month because I sold bootleg copies of Disney movies. No one told me! Yup. Learned fast.

    • Here's a great resource: TSNN.com

You can utilize this resource, find a tradeshow in your area, and then you can go booth to booth requesting to set up a retail/dropshipping relationship with HUNDREDS of potential dropshippers in ONE DAY.

But here's the thing - you STILL have to research the profitability of those suppliers to see if they're even viable.

What's the point of working with a dropshipper if at the end of the day they won't make you a profit? (Which is Doba's big issue??) That's why I teach my profitability techniques in my ebooks. Because it is SO vital - NO MATTER THE PRODUCT SOURCE!

      This is what I do:

When I approach a potential supplier, I take their product catalog and I say: "I'll get back to you on pricing"

I don't let them tell me what price I'll pay -- but unless I KNOW what price I can pay and make a profit, I'll be dead in the water... if you're not armed with that knowledge, you're just shooting blanks.

The best weapon in a negotiation is more knowledge than the other person. I give that knowledge to people gladly in my eBooks.

There are growing numbers of people who seem to be posting disguised affiliate links. I don't have the tech skills to identify them all, but for those who do have those skills, I would suggest a campaign to remove them.

I read a lot of bad reviews about doba.com. I'm sure things are not quite good. I suggest you to research very carefully before choosing a program. I'm using Cellz Drop Shipping and they are very professional. They require No upfront expenses or signup fees. Plus, they take care of the shipping.
    Best,

      Best,
Thanks to redlegrich for a worthwhile post. Not just because he said something nice about me , but because he made real sense.

Many or more likely all, Chinese dropshippers such as Cellz recommended by anna, compete direct with their own customers. Cellz seem more generous than most by giving dropship customers a discount of 20%, BUT that is off their retail price.

There are two things wrong with this.
      • They frequently discount their retail price to individual consumers by 10% and sometimes by 20%, so what use to you is a discount that just in effect matches retail?
      • They claim that they supply at "factory direct" prices but that is baloney. Factory direct is when you buy from a factory, not when you buy from a wholesaler who has added a substantial margin to the price they paid the factory.
Nobody in their right mind would buy direct from the factory and settle for a price that gave them a pathetic margin like that. For many years before retirement I imported direct from the manufacturers, often in very small quantities, and I would never look at a product if I could not mark it up by at least 250%.

I have not used Doba before, however i did test out their drop shipping platform. They have good customer service that are more than happy to sign you up. I think like others said there are products that everyone is promoting. The best way to deal with that is to create a banging SWEET WEBSITE that blows other drop shippers to the side. I did this with an industry and I had a ceo of another company contact me to tell me that he noticed it and he was in the same industry but different product category and he loved it.

I would say the best way to deal with that is to get out of the herd and find a way to buy something that will make you big profits.

I teach how to buy small quantities direct from overseas manufacturers and if you do that you will find profit margins that you would never imagine in your wildest dreams.

If you can market something successfully, doesn't it make sense to do that with high profit margins rather than the sad profit margins you can get by working through Doba and other dropship sources?

It's nice that they have great customer service.

However, just run the numbers. I teach that there are 6 numbers you need to know BEFORE you list on eBay.

They have one of those numbers that is well above the eBay market worth of items.

When this happens, your prices HAVE to be inflated - because their's is.

In order to sell a product, you really have to do it on accident.

With Doba, there is no negotiation, no products/niches that have great demand and manageable competition. Oh, and nor do they have any profit for you.

ADE has a great tip in going to trade shows. A lot of folks think they are dead, I disagree. It is a place where potential suppliers and potential buyers meet. What more could you want. A real "trade" show is not open to the public, you will likely need a reseller license to get in. That helps keep the riff raff out ;-)

My experience has always been to go to the back of the show to find the folks who got last minute booths or are startups. Sometimes a lot of great products there and the companies are EAGER for representation. Now, for new products market building can be an issue as there might not be search traffic, but the opportunity can be huge.

In Seattle where I live the gift show comes through twice a year, as well as dozens of other shows. Really ambitious? Hit the big shows in Vegas, for most shows your expenses will be cheap. Go to CES and it's a zoo and hotels are through the roof price wise. If you can fly in for the LAST day only. Hit the International Pavilion for manufacturers and the far corners and back rows.

Seriously there are so many manufacturers looking for people to sell their products. And, after so many posts why do people still ask and talk about Doba and WWBs. That is the road to hell, you'll be fighting every other cheap and lazy seller for pennies. If you are lucky.

Listen to ImportExport and ADE, they are providing time tested procedures that will make you money.
