Facebook Ads Newbie Question

I've been browsing around for a while now, and this is my first official post.

I've been gathering information on how I should approach my first cpa campaign, and it's been quite a headache sorting through all this information.

What I have decided I would focus on is Facebook ads and sending traffic to my email opt-in. I have yet to actually run this campaign as I'm trying to clarify this tidbit in Facebook's ad guideline:

Ads cannot require viewers to click on the ad to submit Personally Identifiable Information (such as name, date of birth, phone numbers, social security number, physical addresses, or email addresses) on the landing page or in the ad, except to enable an ecommerce transaction and where the ad and landing page clearly indicate that a product is being sold.

What I take from this is I can't collect any user information which includes email address unless I'm making some sort of ecommerce transaction.

I've noticed plenty of threads regarding using Facebook ads to build a list, I was wondering if there was a certain way to go about it.

I apologize if this has been answered somewhere, I just couldn't find it through search.

Thanks.

It's comical some stuff they put in their guidelines vs. what they actually approve. Your best bet is to spy on other ads to see what is working by creating a bunch of "dummy" accounts with different demographics.

I like this idea too. Good suggestion.

I've actually been looking at the ad board on my account and that little snippet I posted above seems to be on point, I haven't seen any opt-in landers. I feel sort of bad for clicking on these ads because I have no intention of fulfilling the offer, if there is a way I could see the lander without costing these people money that would be great.

Thanks for the reply I was getting worried this was a taboo subject as no one has responded after several views. It seems to me that there isn't a clear answer to this one, although I've been reading that building a list really is the best way.

I wanted to avoid getting into PPV/CPV right off the bat, but with all this gray area in Facebook I'm beginning to sway in that direction.

Also thanks for the tip about multiple accounts.

If you're building a list for a legit reason, you can do it.

If you're just doing for something that is obviously not legit, don't bother.

Actually, they do allow opt-in landers. This rule seems to make it impossible, but they do accept landing pages with opt-in forms. Just offer an autoresponder series or a membership and it will pass. Downloadable things can pass as well, but it's a bit harder.

Facebook is strange they say they don't allow a lot of things and it's all really about how the approver of the ad is felling at that very minute. You can put the same ad through every 30 mins for 2-3 days and randomly it'll get approved. Even if it's against policy.

Thanks for the input guys, this one thing has really been keeping me from taking action. I guess I'll just put it up and see what happens.

Facebook are pretty tough on approving ads. Anything IM or even dating, ads are not approved.
