"Advertorial" landing pages?

One of the CPA gurus said that ALL the big guys making money with CPA are using "advertorial" style landing pages.

I know what an advertorial is (just look in any big magazine), but can anyone point to a live example promoting a CPA offer? I'm wondering how it really differs from a faux blog (which I won't use for ethical reasons).

Thanks,

John

How Life works is one. There are others, I just can't remember them off the top of my head.

OK. I guess it's sort of a hybrid. I was expecting something different.

Since they have AdSense and accept advertising, it seems more like an authority affiliate site.

I was told that the advertorial sites being used so successfully for CPA were one-paged sites which focus on a single niche.

Oh, I've seen those kind of CPA offers, but they get shutdown fairly quickly. They have like a news theme and they only focus on one product. I had a few of them bookmarked, but they are all down now. They didn't stay up long.

Be careful with advertorials. The FTC doesn't like them. If you do use one make sure you have plenty of disclaimers. I'd even go as far as to run it by an attorney before you launch.

I was just trying to figure out how these "new" advertorials differ from the "faux" blogs that the FTC hates. So far, they seem to be very similar.

It's not the kind of thing I have any interest in doing. I don't want to "trick" people into buying or doing anything. If I can't find a totally white hat way of doing it, I won't.

      Thanks for the examples.

Well, the big thing is that they are making performance claims through testimonials and images (before and after). Then when you push hundreds of thousands of visitors a day to the same reverse billing CPA offer you will get a ton of complaints.

That's how they end up on the FTCs radar.

I'm a little curious about how these advertorials convert.

I don't think they could buy ad space on sites like USA Today if they didn't have high conversion rates.

EDIT - Sorry about that I see you wanted CPA specific examples, I missed that as my kids where in the office with me at the time of the post. The links below are obviously not like CPA landers, I'll leave the links up any way in case others might want to look at them.

Here's 3 straight out of web copy that sells, which is about writing advertorials.

Advertorials are just a copywriting style. Tons of big league copywriters use them. The only reason some people give them a bad wrap is because they where used to tell and sell lies in the CPA industry. If you use an advertorial but with facts and stories that area real & true, you should be fine.

I know what an advertorial is -- I just wanted to see it implemented in the way this CPA guy was talking about.

      Thanks, Chad.

I was on a call with Ben Moskel where he was pitching his CPA training program. On that call, he said all the big CPA gurus were using single-paged, advertorial sites. He said that's the current "big thing." But he didn't give any examples.

So I was trying to figure out what he was talking about because it sounded a lot like a new term for a "faux" blog.
