Only 1 sale from £100 spent on Google adwords

I have spent about £100 on Google Adwords for Bay of Bengal Restaurant (www.bayofbengalEdinburgh.com) to sell the voucher (£15 voucher when spend £40 or more). So far there was only 1 sale.

Keywords used are some traditional restaurant keywords such as Indian Restaurant, plus hotels' name, tourist attractions around such as Edinburgh Castle.

Is there any suggestions please?

Thanks

Spend a lot more, eliminate targets that spend more than your CPA, track results, only run ads when people are converting (probably around lunch time in this case), target locals, split test landing pages.

You can use tools like KeywordSpy to find the advertisers that have been promoting that offer. This way, you can see what keywords and ad copy they've been using. Pretty much use their tried, tested, and tweaked ads to maximize your ROI.

This is not an affiliate offer he's running.

And copying targets and creatives is a shameful way to run any campaign. Sure, use it for inspiration, but blatantly copying ads is a sure fire way to make sure that you never achieve success on your own.

I didn't mean to copy/paste their ads as your own. I meant to use their successful ads as as a starting point based on research to maximize your ROI.
This way, if you were thinking of a specific ad copy but didn't know if it was going to be beneficial. But if it looks along the lines of what the heavy hitters are using, it probably will have a good CTR.

The owner has decided to put it on hold. I am going to run another adwords for a blacksmith. Hope it will bring more business this time.

Are you trying to attract the locals or tourists?

For locals, go with Facebook. For tourists go offline like yellow pages, talk to local hotel/motel owners where tourists stay or people they take suggestions from.

Adwords won't be my first choice. Maybe Google places is a better option. You can also consider sites like Yelp, Tripadvisor etc. to catch the attention of travelers.

By the way, if I ever go to Edinburgh, I am going to Kama Sutra. Can't believe someone gave that name to their restaurant...lol

Implement some sort of tracking of your keywords.

Make sure your landing page is fire.

    Test multiple ads.

I would say the landing page is the problem. You need to learn how to make a good landing page.
Offers | Bay of Bengal Indian Restaurant Edinburgh
I see the food pictures first. I should see something like "Save $15 On Your Next Visit!", "Print Your Free Coupon Now"
        High a graphic designer too.

We have added £50 for festival periods.

As suggested, I set up one for desktop, one for mobile and the periods for ad to be run. Also, set up the image ad for display networks. The Google adword account manager told me before Google adwords didn't work well for restaurant, his points were reviews and Google place could do a better job. However, you can see restaurant ad everywhere, it must work. The problem for me could be I haven't identified the right channel, and I can't collect enough data because of budget.

Regarding to Keywordspy mentioned by ThePhil, I will try it. At the moment, I use free tools and am going to experience some tools recommended by a SEO book.

Thank you for all comments and encourages.

      Hey DesignPromote,

When it is a restaurant with a physical location I agree with "the Google adwords dude". Do LOCAL! Like maps and places!!! Surely they have it in the country in question. If you don't know how, LEARN IT! YOu can get paid by setting Google Local up and maintaining it. It will come up for tourists on their smart phone searches. How can this NOT be the answer?

      Thanks

I suppose what you mean is Google has answered my questions.

Google place is great and free, open to every business, but I aim to spend more and have more return. Google adwords and placement include so many information and websites, I think it shall be some are better than others, and shall be one or two channels working the best.

Looking at that landing page the call to action is really weak. Definitely needs work. That's why for client campaigns I will generally do a separate landing page that allows me to make sure it will be successful. I can drive traffic like crazy but if the page isn't good it just won't convert.

You need to start testing and sorting out your lander. Also start getting leads and enticing people to want to be a lead. Offer them something they want. Entice them to come.

To MarvyDery: the owner has a limited budget, i set up placement network on Google adwords, it seem not working well. I was thinking facebook and gumtree.
To others regarding to the landing page: firstly, thanks all for the suggestion. it's a problem, i was thinking about change because its bounce rate is less than 50% but is double than another Indian Restaurant website i did (Kasturi Indian Gourmet Restaurant Edinburgh please feel free to compare) However I decided to improve its google ranking having more traffics, it's now nearly in the first page. 1 and 2 weeks ago, I thought to change background image or color simply, but now, with all suggestions, it turned out food photos have problem. Anyway, as PRBandit said, to hire a graphic designer said all. Be lucky 2013 to all.

update: another £50 was not working well during xmas and the new(old?) year. I didn't start to improve landing page yet as I am developing a simple online booking and email marketing system. If more people use it, the better SEO I will have.

    1. Your landing page needs to look attractive and easy on the eyes.
    2. You need to test which keyword gets the most buyers for the vouchers and eliminate keywords that have no effect.
