I learnt very early not to give my telephone number. If it is a required field I do not enter my right number. I did once and I got hounded by a company for a few months. I ask them nicely to remove me from their list and they didn't so then I told them in no uncertain terms to remove me. They finally took the hint.

    yeah probably.

If you tell us what the PPV ads were advertising, and we can probably provide better insight.

PPV = Pay Per View. They are popups basically. Traffic Vance is a popular site to use.

They collect your number to sell to call centers. Since you entered your number, the DNC (Do Not Call) list doesn't apply. Once they have you on the phone, they try to sell a variety of offers.

Dave, can you recommend any call centers that buy phone numbers? I'm guessing it depends on the industry?

They collect your phone number for Marketing purpose.

Once you give your Phone number, Address, etc and click on SUBMIT..

You are in their trap! You will get tons of calls, SMS,etc selling you something.

Its dirty but part of marketing

Two types of offers require phone numbers:

    1. Mobile PIN submit offers that bill the phone number for SMS or ringtones. In this case you need to confirm via PIN that you want to subscribe.

    2. Pay-per-call offers, where the affiliate gets paid for every phone call to the number listed on the landing page that lasts beyond X number of minutes. If you're in niches where most business is done via phone (B2B, home renovations, some financial niches too...) I would suggest looking into these offers as they are KILLER on local sites.
