Is it Just Me or is BoxofAds Terrible?

I recently signed up for the free trial at BoxofAds. In the past I've used WhatRunsWhere and Adbeat for mobile/display and based on those experiences, I was excited to get my hands on similar technology for ppv.

Maybe I'm missing something, but BoxofAds seems to be wrong on just about everything. And not just a little wrong, but astoundingly wrong. The first thing I checked were my own domains. There were about 10 campaigns/landers listed, and all but 2 were offers I've never run before. The 2 offers that were genuine were offers I haven't run in months and even when I did, I sent hardly any traffic to. Meanwhile, since then I've run about 200k hits/day to different offers on the same domain and there's no mention of these campaigns anywhere.

Also, the targets they give are just absurd. BoxofAds had like 500 targets for my campaigns, when in fact, there were only 2 targets (neither of which were part of the 500 listed by BoxofAds). Browsing through other people's landers, it's plainly obvious the targets are wrong. For example, I recall seeing a survey lander and in the thumbnail image of the survey, you can clearly see "Dear Walmart.com Visitor" yet BoxofAds claims the target is imdb.com. Am I missing something, or is BoxofAds always wrong?

    First of all. Ye I agree sometimes our targets aren't perfect this is due to nature of PPV and how it shows up ads when compared to display advertising.

    We are constantly improving our quality in upcoming patch we are addressing issue with landing pages similar to "survey" in order to improve quality of our software.

    In general what I advice our to use it to look through those campaigns and use common sense when looking at targets and landing pages. You cannot just copy+paste and be done with it

      Why not just grab the domain that triggers the pop rather than trying to use some complicated algorithm (which clearly doesn't work) to determine the exact keyword?

    if you have already used whatrunswhere and adbeat and then you are trying to use something like boxofads, you would definitely be utterly disappointed, just sayin!

    Just throwing this out there but could it be the PPV networks are showing stuff for targets that you didn't bid on too? I mean how can we really honestly track that and make sure they're not just showing pops for whatever they please? Maybe Box of Ads is actually correct and just reporting data, not doing anything other then that?

      Occam's razor mate. Is there a grand conspiracy among ppv networks to pop your lander on unbidded targets and then lie about it, or is BoxofAds wrong?

      50onRed passes back the domain, so unless they are blatantly lying, the fault lies with BoxofAds. Many people don't know this, but oftentimes you can actually get the domain in LI as well. The issue is with BoxofAds. And as I mentioned in the original post, it's not just keywords they are wrong about.

      It would seem the technology just isn't there yet for ppv. I find it a little surprising that BoxofAds charges $200/month for what is in reality a beta service, but then, they're the only game in town.

        I see that a lot when I'm doing my own spying (with or without BOA). Don't underestimate how careless a lot of affiliates are when building campaigns. They copy something without thinking, or rip an LP for a Walmart survey then run it on another target without changing it. Affiliates don't always put much effort into things lol.

        Yes, this is correct. The matching isn't like exact match with AdWords - different networks have different methods of determining when your ad/LP is triggered.

        No spy tool is 100% perfect, you just have to look at it like you're getting a general idea what other people are doing. You could always just install the adware on a virtual machine, but I've found that to not be worth the hassle.

          No, it's not correct. While it's true PPV networks don't always match domains exactly (except in the case of 50onRed when choosing domain keywords), the problem is with BoxofAds,not the PPV networks. As I already mentioned, 50onRed passes the domain back and in many instances so does LI, so this is an easy thing to check (which I've done for my own campaigns/domains).

          If BoxofAds is to get better (which I really hope it does) then we need to acknowledge its shortcomings rather than sweep them under the rug and pretend they don't exist in order to sell more subscriptions.

            Interested in this tool, but paying 200$/month of completely inaccurate data is like kicking yourself to the nuts. It's smart in a different way.

                Can anyone confirm that this is sill a case with box of ads?

    Honestly, IMO - they are a tool used to help us. But due to the nature of the business, i don't expect 100% accuracy. Like everything else, to me - this is to get an idea and come up with my own testing strategy. Either way, i've found a good use of them, to each their own i guess
