List Building: The Stumbling Block
- ARTICLES |
Of course there are a variety of responses to this question. Some say there is not enough dedication. Others think that it was more work than the entrepreneur thought. Still others might think there was a lack of training or good materials.
And as you probably know, any of these could be true.
But in my humble opinion, I believe any of the above reasons often stem from the task of "List Building"

Reality is that if you see a marketer who is a good list builder, you are probably looking at a relatively successful marketer. Let's face it, you are not going to see someone who is considered a "Guru" who does not have a massive, if not very large list.
For some reason, list building seems to be the Achilles heal for new marketers. There are plenty of good materials out there; two authors jump right to my mind, without any thought. But reading about list building and doing it are two different things.
I think list building is a bit scary in some way. You have to put yourself out there and ask for an email address. You face possible rejection. And if you do get someone to sign up then you need to start communicating in a sensible, valuable way. Its just a hard thing for some to do. Then there is the whole aspect of setting up an auto-responder. This is also often an extra investment.
Its definitely a challenge but it is one that must be done. If you are struggling with this, get a referral for some material or get some advice. Without a list it is unlikely you will ever experience any level of success.
Good luck,
Dave
