Link Building Secrets - How to Easily Get Link Backs
- ARTICLES |
Search engines index sites by using a number of algorithms. They look for relevant keywords both in the Meta data on your site as well as in your content. The search engines also look to see if relevant and trustworthy sites are linking to you. A relevant site is a website which focuses on a similar topic. For example if you sell snowboarding equipment and a sports nutrition site links to you that may be considered relevant however if a furniture store links to you - well the two have nothing in common and the link to your site will have a significantly less value.
Search engines also weigh whether or not the link comes from a trustworthy site, a site that isn't known for spam, viruses, and has a good history of being a reputable business. This means it pays to pay close attention to who you link to.
While it is common courtesy in the world wide web to link back to a site which has linked to you. However, this doesn't always happen. To receive a link back consider:
- Sending an email request for a link back
- Notifying the company that you have in fact linked to them
- Requesting a reciprocal link agreement from a website before you link to them
Once you link to a website you have a number of options to find out if a site has linked back to you. There are many online link checking tools including SEO-Watch, Marketleap and Yahoo. You can also visit the website directly and search their pages however using the link checking tools may uncover some websites which are linking to you that you're unaware of.
If a webmaster doesn't link back you of course have two options. Keep the link to their site or remove it. The choice is up to you. If their site offers your visitors and target audience good information or adds credibility to your website then it may be worth keeping the outgoing link. If it's an incoming link that you're after and you're not receiving a link back, then removing your link is probably the best choice.
