To Create an Ebook or Not to Create an Ebook, that is my Question.

Pretty straightforward question.

I started writing a listicle, but it is turning out to be over 3000 words. So, i have the opportunity to make it an ebook (and lost the SEO traffic, affiliate commissions etc) or keep it as it is (and lose a potential funnel).

Give me your suggestions warriors.

P.S: I am a small fish. Around 300 visitors per month and <6 months old blog!

Perhaps not quite as straightforward as you think.

Depending on your intentions, you could leave the post as it is and build a rep for serious content. You could split the article into two or more posts to encourage return visits. Or you could package the article, if it's enticing enough, to start/grow your subscriber list, in which case you might want to post a tasticle listicle of the article.

Comes down to what you want from the blog. What are you hoping to achieve?

    Great answer from Frank.

I was writing a blog post last year and I arrived at the 6,000 word mark. I have no problem with large blog posts (in most contexts they're good) but the quality of writing and information was, I felt, too good for a blog post. A few months later, I'd turned 6,000 words into over 160,000, and ended up publishing it as an eBook, both here on WF and elsewhere. I ended up adding far more material and value, but the basic concept for the book began with 6,000 words, and I was in a similar boat to you now.

Moral of the story? I think it really boils down to value. Size is not an issue. The issue is the true worth of whatever it is that you write - 3,000 words or 300,000. You have to look at that value and decide where it can serve you best. Should it be in your funnel? Should you whack it on the blog and build rep? Should you grow and upgrade it and turn it into a book? My advice is to consider it's present potential and where you feel that potential could benefit you most. Do you need the extra rep? Do you need a stronger incentive for your list? Can you evolve it into something bigger and much better and go the publishing route? It's a hard call to make from the sidelines, because only you will really know where the potential is going to be of most benefit, given your present business/ marketing elements.

That's probably not useful at all; sorry, lol.

    Cheers,

    Tom

This is a great problem to have because you can do all of the above with the 3000 words.

I am not sure if you have ever heard of Frank Kern but he wrote a free report 5 years ago that he keeps repackaging and renaming and giving it away to get people interested in his consulting program or selling it as a valuable informational book on its own.

He has so far renamed and repackaged that same book 8 times in the past 5 years and each and every time he has made money from something he did once.

Yes, this is pretty much what i am thinking of doing, though in a smaller scale.

Publish it as a post for 3-6 months, get everything i want out of it and them simply add 1-2 things, edit it and create a free ebook!

  • Here's a straight answer...!

It's common when pouring your heart and soul into your blog post which is intended to help your readership, to make you feel like you are giving away too much value away for free.

    To answer your question...

Keep writing your 3000+ word blog post. Write it as the first chapter and presell page for the rest of your ebook, paperback book which should sell the rest of your sales funnel.

When you feel inspired to compile your thoughts into PDF file exceeding the 7000+ word mark then do so, and offer it as a free download in exchange for your blog reader's best email address.

Should you feel inspired to developed your eBook and paperback book more, then you can create a more indepth guide detailing a proven solution that you can get paid for.

    * Your blog readers are already reading the first chapter of your book in your blog post and you're building report with them.

    * You invite your blog readership to download your free PDF in exchange for their email address

    * You have a paid offer with a more detailed guide woven into the backend of your free PDF and follow-up email sequence
