Stupid question on sites like Freelancer, Upwork etc.

Hi all,
I have noticed a lot of freelancers turn to these sites to make decent money on the internet, and the sites I speak of are Upwork, Freelancer.ca (which is the same as WarriorForum?), Fivver, and more.

I want to make like at least $30 a day, as I have about 8 hours free a day (minus 2 days a week for regular work) so I can save for some things.

Is this possible with the use of these sites?. I know how to write articles, or troubleshoot computer problems and also use Wordpress pretty well. Though I don't know programming very much etc.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I want to make like at least $30 a day,
This is very possible but it will take you some time to reach that level.

You need to get some clients, satisfy them and get them to order again and give you good reviews.

  • Just signup, pay the membership fees and start writing.

Show your prospective clients what your quality of work is like and see if you are able to reach your daily income targets.

You won't know unless you try it yourself and do your own research. Companies pay thousands of dollars to other companies to do research for them. Nobody is going to do your research for you for free.

The only way you will know for sure is to take control of your financial destiny, and signup to those platforms and learn how the system works by being part of that writers community.

Ok great thanks for the tips guys, ill give this a try. Next question would be, what do you guys recommend for the best platform?. I am guessing you would all say, maybe a combination of a few?, then you can make money faster I suppose...

Should you actually pay the membership fees for these sites?. I personally dont care for the features, as long as i can make money i guess.

My advice - get over the 'I want it all for free" outlook. How many sites you work with is up to you - I'd start with one (and it wouldn't be Fiverr).

Identify what skills YOU want to feature - if you are a writer, best to have a few areas to specialize in (topics that you know about or are interested in).

Yes you should have the paid upgrade. Create a good and honest profile on the site. Don't bid on a gig and sit waiting for a reply - learn how to write good bids - and place 50 bids a day until you have all the work you can handle. When you get work - be easy to work with - deliver top quality work on time and build a ranking on the freelance site.

Forget how much money you want (for now) and focus on what you have to offer and how to get work to make some money.

A combination of freelancing websites would be good. It helps to build a good reputation across various platforms. I sometimes check if the freelancer I want to hire has profiles in other sites and if they're successful there too.

Just keep in mind that it's not going to be easy breezy at the start. Like what Kay King said, you'd best concentrate on getting work first before you start shifting your focus on how much you want to earn.

Your question isn't stupid actually. And yes you can earn $30 per day on Upwork but you'll need to be a bit patient.

Freelance writing is an indemand freelance skill on Upwork but likewise, there's a lot of competition too. As someone has suggested, try and speciliaze in one or two topics. Blockchain is a hot topic right now and you can do some research and begin writing articles on that.

I think you may want to check out a webinar recording and content shared by Lior Ohayon on the subject of selling services to clients. He has an interesting way of approaching prospects or potential clients. I think he has used Upwork or a similar(s) freelancing sites. I have not sold services there. But, I think that being able to stand out from all candidates to a project may help.

    Hi moowooshoe,

No such thing as a stupid question buddy. Some questions are unclear, or maybe asked about irrelevant topics, but doubt fuels all questions and it is not stupid to doubt.

No one website determines if you make $30 a day. Your skills determine if you make $30 a day.

Keep honing your skills in those areas you noted, through diligent practice. Practicing daily makes you more skilled, and as you improve your skills, more folks will want to hire you if you register on those sites.

I'd also add that being persistently generous is a great way to make money or land work. Show off your know-how for free on forums, on social media and through your blog, and you betcha more clients will seek you out for paid work. Just keep practicing and sharing.
