Can a .pro domain be ranked?

I purchased a .pro domain that contains the main topic of the site. So for example...keyword.pro
If I have original content and unique features for visitors will I have a good shot at ranking this domain or will the extension hinder me? Any insight is appreciated!

The most searched for have a .com after them, but for rankings, it probably doesn't matter as much.

PS, like the icecream avatar image, should antagonize Claude, which is good.

The .pro TLD is only supposed to be used by certified professionals. Assuming you are a certified professional (accountant. lawyer, doctor, etc.), there will be no difference in ranking for that TLD or a .com one - Google has said on numerous occasions that the TLD does not matter for ranking (except in certain searches where the location is important and it is a geographical TLD).

This shouldn't matter in ranking, it will matter on how your visitors see you based on your niche.

It doesn't matter with.com or .pro, .net domains technically. The thing is people are more familiar to .com, .net than .pro domain. Then people likely to click on .com; .net over .pro domain. Then it can be lower your CTR, then ranking can be somehow affected. Just my thought, hopefully that makes sense to you.

Not everybody using the internet is in the website industry. I'm not sure if the vast majority of people even look at the domain name before clicking on a search result, so I doubt it will affect click-through rate dramatically.

What it will affect is return visitors. People remember websites as .com, whether they are or are not, just like people remember toll free phone numbers as 1-800, when they might really be 1-888 numbers. If there is another website with the .com version of your .pro website name, they will definitely get a good percentage of visitors who meant to return to your website.
