I want to pursue a digital marketing career but no experience. What should I do?

Sounds like you have plenty of different interests, what I would do is narrow down what is most important to me and start working on achieving that (goal setting).

If you just want a job, I would focus on finding a job first then focusing on everything else.

Base hit first home run second.

That means get any job so you can have some money to invest in courses or training that will help build the skill set required for those better jobs or better opportunities.

You could later go into business by yourself with the help of those skills you developed and with that money you saved up from that job you landed.

Yeah but they want experience. For an entry-level, it's usually 1-2 years. I think the only solution is to experiment myself. I decided on health and beauty. What I find difficult though is the fact that I have to manage and update not only the blog, but the different social media accounts with daily posts of different types.

Get used to having to manage multiple accounts, it can be a pain but that's part of the process. Try getting the blog going first, and then once you've got some content and you're comfortable managing it, add the next step (FB/IG/YT or whatever else you want). If it were me, I'd try one at a time so I didn't get too overwhelmed right off the bat, but that's just me. You may be comfortable doing it differently, that's up to you to decide.

I would also suggest that you narrow down your objectives. If you have decided to become a marketer continue reading. As far as your niche is concerned, choose an area where your passion is. if you like beauty, write about it. If it is travel chose and stick to it..

Pick a digital marketing topic you want to learn about. Find people doing the job you want and do information interviews with them. Use the content for your blog as well as building a YT video channel: you can embed the videos on your blog.

This shows you have a level of "get off your butt" and also are clearly learning about the digital marketing topic. Also, for job hunting, the blog will be a differentiator: it'll make you stand out against other candidates who are simply using outdated job hunting technology like resumes and cover letters.

Get that blog up and going. run experiments to grow your following.

Honestly the vanity metrics like insta and FB followers might be worth working on if you're wanting to use this as a way of launching your career. That way employers will be able to visibly see you can grow an audience

Linked Is the place to network especially for B2B and employment.

You have the right idea in wanting ton set up a blog and produce content.That is definitely the way to go to gain exposure in addition.to networking .

Lastly....Choose one topic instead of 2 . It is either selfdevelopment or Arabic language .You can mass produce micro bits sized content to show your expertise to would be employers if you should choose to go that route.

Do Technical Blogging. Employers attract to the profile who is more into tech stuff. If I am the interviewer and want to hire someone who can manage my clients of any fields I personally choose that guy who is more devoted towards new and upcoming trends in digital marketing, google algorithms updates, etc. But the question is how you can gain attention? Well, the answer is Blog. Do Blogging which is related to Digital Marketing, Engage more traffic on that and by this practice, you'll always be updated with new trends and you have a portfolio for the interviewer. Not even Interviewer you can get your personal clients and you can start earning good revenue from that.

A digital marketing is one of the easiest to enter.

- Get a very simple beginners book on Amazon to open you up to the world of digital marketing.
- Identify ONE niche in digital marketing you want to mster and work on that first in your free time.
- Find digital marketing jobs in that niche and build up from there.

Maybe you can blog something about what you know and what most people are curious about. Technically, it's a give and take process. As you said, you're interested in teaching Korean in Arabic so you should try that one. Lots of people gets curious about something they haven't learn. What you have to do is make your topic more interesting. You can also do travel blogs. Do anything you really enjoy. As long as you have a passion and love in doing that.

If you have little to no experience over something that you want to do, then you must try to learn it first. Learn from the people who did that, find a mentor, check Youtube videos. These things are quite simple but this is where you can really get enough knowledge over the things you don't have experience with. This should prepare you on what to expect and the possibility of things to happen.

How about blogging about the problem you just described to us all?

I mean, if you have that problem, and you already have experience in the 'journalism' field, then it kind of fits, doesn't it? I mean, you know these people and how their minds work, I assume, so why not see if there are others out there dealing with a similar situation you are, and spend your time not only trying to solve your problem, but documenting your journey so they can follow in your footsteps.

As they say, why not earn while you learn.

1. Forget about doing your thing. Just stop. Right now. You don't even know enough to be dangerous so you're wasting your time.

2. Disregard anyone here that tells you otherwise. They're broke, and wrong.
3. Read, read, and read more about the skills you need in digital marketing. You need to be T shaped. Only pay attention to legitimate sources (Google, Moz, StateOfDigital, Hubspot sparingly)
4. Get ALL of the Google certifications. (Search, Display, Analytics, etc)

5. Find yourself an internship or entry level job in the field. i.e. "digital marketing intern" "digital marketing specialist" "digital marketing generalist".
6. Work your @$$ off.
7. Never stop learning but be mindful of the BS. This is a BS intensive field.

I wanted to read the rest of the comments but after the first six or so I just couldn't So if this has already been said, forgive me. You can't. You can't build a newbie blog in hopes of attracting an employer. You can (as may have been said) start a blog as an entrepreneur. It's hard work and you have to do it until you can afford to outsource it. Bottom line.

Actually I agree with you. There was something "understood" in my post that I assumed would be obvious but did not actually state.

You must get your content in front of the people who have the power to hire you.

I have had four executive roles created for me -- no job existed -- with this approach. And the last two times, the way I did it was getting interviews, discussions, content like this in front of employers.

Not HR managers...owners of companies I picked as probably being a good fit.

I drip fed them the content, and over several weeks they began to start thinking about, "How can I fit this guy into my plans?"

The fastest this approach worked was 4 days and that was with a weekend in the middle. I dropped off my content package Friday, the director of manufacturing called me in for an interview the following Monday, and created a role for me on the spot. Funny thing was the salary was exactly the weird amount I'd been making 4 days earlier: you cannot say I didn't create EVERYTHING about this position.

Suddenly I was managing 150 people with 6 supervisors reporting to me. No job existed, no want ad, no other candidates to beat.

A couple times a year, and I have one right now, I get a high end client to guide in creating the role of their dreams.

So this does work. What doesn't work is most people, who lack the guts to try anything like it.

build your knowledge first. Read materials online and enrol for courses using coursera, edx, udemy, udacity and other platforms. Apply to volunteer and intern at digital marketing firms and enterprises. You will be surprised at the wealth of knowledge you will amass by doing just these. You will also get insights and make better decisions with the exposure.

In my personal opinion people excel when they follow their true passions, if you have a bachelor in Journalism and your mission is to gain a job in Social Media, follow your goal and take action.

Entering into a digital marketing career can be extremely rewarding in so many ways. There is however a lot of work involved, such as understanding how to write blogs, SEO, article writing, fully understanding different social media platforms, coding, website development, email marketing, list building, growing your online presence, achieving social media status and recognition, influencing, tags, website traffic, affiliate marketing and the list has only just begun.

My advice is to start gently, follow what you love, transfer your skills in that career into setting up your first blog, be creative and write lots of content about your subject, other people will feel how passionate you are about the subject when visiting and reading your blog, study social media platforms and discuss your subject with other people who also have a passion for your subject on different social media platforms.

If you provide value to your followers, they will in turn show respect towards you, this is how you grow your following. I have spent 15 years growing my online presence and developing websites as an online entrepreneur. I am passionate about this niche so I writhe in desire when I write or talk about it.

I would go to webinar and learn as much as I could.On the way I could post few videos on topic,to get things going.If you dont like to be seen,never mind,screen your desktop and talk.
Maybe you should let pros to do this for you or ,if on budget,get simple funnel going.

If you plan just to get a job in this field, I would try learning online and opt-in for free digital marketing certifications.

They will train your skills and importantly (as you look for a job) will strengthen your resume. There are many free certifications available including from Google, Facebook(blueprint certification) and others.

Im not understanding what a blog or a website has ANYTHING to do with being a social media coordinator. I went back through this thread and NOT once was in mentioned hey work on your personal Social media accounts... in that interview you went to guess what they did.. they went and looked at your social media accounts if you had any, and KNEW you would not be a good candidate.

You want a position like that.. forget all the scheduling and SEO and al of that... jack your PERSONAL Social media accounts, and you will get hired.
