I've Chosen my niche! Passion over revenue - beginner help on keyword tools and theme

Hi Warriors,

If you've seen my introduction post, you'll know that I've been out of the game for 10 years and need to familiarize myself with the new world of affiliate marketing. However, I'm diving in head first and excited to enhance my knowledge.

As per the title of this thread, I've chosen my niche based on personal passion instead of soulless revenue. The niche chosen is in Travel and will focus on "off the beaten path" and "adventure". The idea is to guide travellers on visiting countries/cities that aren't on peoples usual list due to lack of information/fear of safety and the unknown. With that being said, I'd like to know if it's wrong to include some main stream travel locations/guides. I believe being a mix of "off the beaten track" and "main stream" can broaden my audience but I risk losing interest from my main target of adventure travellers - which will be easier to rank for.

Also, I've been using the google keyword planner and was wondering if there is a better research tool to find keywords and help choose a domain name... I'm open to paid and free tools - if you have any suggestions, please share!

Lastly, I read that StudioPress themes for Wordpress are great for SEO. Can anyone verify this as true? I'm leaning towards the theme below but would like some feedback before making the purchase.

If you read this far, thank you. Looking forward to any feedback you can provide.

Cheers,
Mike

  • Yea you do a good thing chosing passion over income as this will keep you interest to continue to work hard and never give up .Huge business was build by passion ,so many people think in just finding the best niche wich its more profitable but after some time they give up as they dont have any interest in it

  • For free tools I strongly suggest...
    • Ubersuggest
    • Moz Chrome Toolbar
    • SEOQuake
    And, for paid tools...
    • Ahrefs
These are the best choices when it comes to themes while having in mind page loading speed...
    • Astra Pro
    • GeneratePress
    • OceanWP
    • Neve

    Cheers!!

  • The travel niche is just awesome and there are so many ways to monetize your content. I was planning to start my own but with the pandemic right now I'll wait a little bit. I'll work with my sister on her own travel blog. We'll write about her previous trips.

The "off the beaten path" and "adventure" approach is a great idea. It will set you apart from your competition. In addition there are a lot of people that are looking for unique places to travel.

If you keep a good ratio of maybe 20% popular places and 80% unique it wouldn't bother me.

I would just make sure that this 20% is worth it. There are always hidden treasures even in very popular destinations.

Google Keyword Planner is not that bad but I prefer Wordtracker (the free version) and Ubersuggest (also free).

About the theme, you can check here https://www.wpbeginner.com/showcase/...-travel-blogs/. The first 3 are the most popular ones. I've never heard of Essence. Sorry I can't help you with that

I would like to add....not sure if you've made further research about monetization, but there are a lot of big insurance companies that offer an affiliate option. I was very surprised and didn't know that. I think it could definitely help your future followers and you as well.

I'll follow this section if you want to share your blog once it's ready.

I would love to see it.

  • Currently the free keyword research tools with unlimited use will be Google Keyword Planner, if you want to use another free one, it will be Ubersuggest but you have limitation use per day

GeneratePress is best for affiliate site
