Is it mandatory to put Heading Tags (H1,H2,H3,H4,H5,H6) in your Blog or Article having 1200 words?

I have posted a blog on one of my website and did'nt take any heading tags and see after one week the blog has seen on the search engine result pages. But I have doubt if we will not put any tags then, how users engange it or understand my post?

    Header tags re important for SEO purposes, it helps build a picture of the structure and flow but different things seem to work for different people.

    I would use header tags for this purpose but there are lots of different factors that play into the success or failure of a project.
