One of the most “real” internet jobs and the most secure is freelance writing where you write for an established website or company, either paid a flat fee for each post or a portion of the ad revenue. In this article you will learn some of the best freelance writing sites on the internet, both flat fee, and ad revenue based.

One of the best paying financial news websites, SeekingAlpha pays you based on hits. They pay $10 per 1000 hits your article generates. While that might not seem huge, they reach an audience of tens of millions of people each month and if you have knowledge on finance, this can be very profitable. On average, my articles were just over 550 words and made me $89 (although this income continues to grow slowly). SeekingAlpha is a good site to use if you have a fairly established audience and like other similar websites it has a huge number of people that subscribe to it’s email alerts and will read your articles.

The second one that many people write for is Squidoo. Squidoo allows you to create Lenses, which are basically mini-sites that help readers learn to do things etc. You can write about almost anything and Squidoo ranks very well on search engines. You can even sell afilliate products on your page with a click of a button. The reason I don’t like Squidoo is you probably won’t make more than a few dollars unless you have a huge audience of people that you can communicate to. Unfortunately, Squidoo is not one of the highest earning websites, and while it can be great to promote your website it's not one of our recommended posts for making money from it directly.

Wise Bread is a personal finance site that pays you to write about anything related to personal finance or living frugally (money saving tips etc.). This one’s great because saving money is a massive category and if you don’t know much about stocks you can write tips for moms to save money, where to find great coupons, etc. Really the possibilities are endless.

In recent years, eHow has become extremely popular, and it's parent Demand Media had the second billion dollar IPO after Google. eHow is a how to site where you can write how to do ANYTHING. It’s great because you can write how to do almost anything and there are no categories you need to stick to. eHow says most people earn around $50 for each post but it all depends on how much traffic, and clicks your how to articles get. Writing an eHow article is a relatively quick process but you need to apply (and have a decent CV) to be accepted as a writer and you have no guarantees on how much money you’ll make from each article (checks are paid monthly based on ad revenue).

The last one is a site that I have personally made a good amount of money with called The Motley Fool. While it is only for stocks and financially related content it pays a flat fee of $100 per post and they have an absolutely amazing editorial team that will help you get your post published. They have standards though, and you can’t write regurgitated garbage or you won’t get paid. It can also be a great site to put on your resume that you blogged for. You’re not going to get super rich off of the Fool but I would estimate that you could write about 1 post and edit it in an hour and a half, tops (working out to $66 an hour). If you’re interested in writing for them private message me (or leave a message on my profile if you can't PM) and I’ll get you in touch with their blogging team. There are no applications, but your posts won’t be published if they are… well, crap. Overall The Motley Fool is the one that I have made the most money with, but there are many people who have made a decent living on other websites.
If you have any other freelance writing sites that you’d like us to know about and maybe write an article on please leave a comment and if you enjoyed this article please share and/or bookmark this page.
