Importance of captions in marketing

Has anyone seen any studies on the impact of photo captions for conversions?

There's a little bit of this from David Ogilvy but I'm having a hard time finding more recent research on this.

This is for an article I'm writing for Practical Ecommerce.

Thanks for any information/leads. If you've *done* such studies, I might very well quote you in the article!

You've probably already done this...I googled "photo captions for conversions".

Some decent-looking results came up:

I do wonder how "scientific" these are, meaning how based they are on opinion versus fact. But the first couple at least seemed reasonable.
