I've got bit of a dilemma...

Ages ago I did the copy for a clients website.

And knowing nothing about putting up sites - the client got a web company to do all that for him.

The client has done well, and now wants to retire.

The legal details on the website are "regulated" in the UK and the regulations are changing on the 1st March - so if the site stays as it is, it could get the client into trouble.

So, the website urgently needs to be taken down.

The problem is - the web company has disappeared with all the codes and whatever else is needed - no one else has these details.

How on earth can the client get rid of the site?

Your help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Go to who.is

Figure out who hosts the website, contact them. Discuss with them the problem. You might be able to get a phone number depending on if you can "prove" you're the owner.

If not, could send a DMCA notice to the hosting company saying it's copyrighted material. Essentially forcing them to take down your own website.

Surely the ISP has procedures in place to supply the forgotten Username and Password of an account to an owner.

Have the owner contact the ISP.

If i were you, i would change the DNS's for the specific domain, so the rediraction would fail, or ever go to another page (maybe an under contruction one ? )

Or go to the company that the domain name was purchased from and cancel the domain.
