A Freelance copywriting site?

I'm sure many of you are well aware of mega websites like Elance.com and Guru.com, but if there was a freelance marketplace ONLY for freelance copywriters and copywriting jobs, what options would you like to see?

The reason I ask is because I'm working on a beta version of a site and tweaking the platform to make for the best user experience for both the person that posts a job and the copywriter.

Thoughts or suggestions? I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Screen the writers - and prevent lackluster writers from getting on the site.

When you have horrible seo writers, and .02 cent per word writers, disguising as copywriters - it does nothing but provide bad service, and attract tirekickers.

And then the whole thing goes downhill from there.

      There you go ^.

You've got an uphill battle because of all the competition, but I have newsletter subscribers who I KNOW would pay for a site where they really had to work hard and deliver value, but where the clients were willing to pay the fees to justify the extra time spent writing and researching.

I also know people who DREAD going to elance because it's a sad hit and miss. All you need is a credit card and two samples, and you're in...they have no way of verifying that you even wrote the samples.

I'd say, go for quality, not volume. Have some standards for writers AND for clients. I'm tempted to write a page of suggestions, but if you're serious about putting this together, PM me.

      No strings attached.

There's a real need for this out there and if you can fill it, I'd be happy to give you 30 minutes of my time.

    Decent pricing.

Most copywriters don't go near bidding sites unless they are desperate, because there are companies charging pennies. It's fair enough to say good writers will get repeat clients, but on those sites, you don't get a chance if you won't compete price-wise.

    Do you mean anything like...

    99copywriters

    Getcopywritingjobs

The AWAI board. Copywriting board's job section. Etc. For a while you couldn't go two weeks without somebody posting their "ONLY copywriting gigs" site.

Must be time for the 'net's short term memory loss to kick in again.

what options would you like to see?
Escrow. Arbitrage opportunities. JV transparency for percentage deals. List hygiene tool(s). List analysis tools (like zip income deciles). Client management. Probably between two and three dozen things you had no intention of putting into your site.

Once I predicted a guy would be out of business with one of these sites in a year. Every last other person on the board ripped into me for it. So a year later, I visit the site. It's gone.

    Spare me the prediction.

Do yourself a favor and don't go chasing after that guy, and a bunch of others who've done the same thing over-and-over-and-over again. Each hardly different from the last. With barely a minute of research to back up their seat-of-the-pants rehash. Each me-too expecting different results.

Don't get me wrong. I do not believe this kind of site can't work.

I just have not seen anybody with clue one on making it work.

It's all "wow there's a 99bottomfeeders site ... let's do one just like it, but for copywriters."

    Let's not.

appreciated John, and thanks for your honesty
Be sure to post when you have it up and running this Friday.

Trust me, I'm not like that. I've been in this business, full time, for years. I know how vital researching, planning and proper execution are in becoming a success. But of course, even when you do those things correctly, things don't always work out.

    Hey Dayne,

Quick question. Curious, what are you gonna offer to Copywriters that the major players don't (if you recognized holes)?

That is why I started this thread, to get opinions.
