Great post Joe! Thanks, and I'm sure we'll get a lot out of this.

One tip for newer copywriters reading this though; Don't get hung up on reading too much. Ensure you balance reading the theory, with actually practicing the techniques. I made this mistake at the start, and I got into a sort of addiction where I thought I could never really get started until I'd read the next book, then the next one, and so on...

This is a highly noteworthy post and I have bookmarked it.
It not only presents actual value to forum members and sparks new ideas, but it also over delivers good information, draws in the reader and encourages them to make a click.
It is an excellent thread AND a great example that on how to establish one’s credibility.
The link to the article Storytelling Power In Ad Copy sparked an idea and enabled me to get over the hump on one of my 2nd Tier pages. It was reading like an encyclopedia entry, I had lost my voice and it was not a compelling read at all.

I just got done re-writing this page
Beginners Guide To Organic Gardening and wanted to thank you for helping me solve this problem I had!

This is a truly great post Joe!

Just recently I went through Andre Chaperon's Lucrative List Building Bootcamp (an email series) and have to say his storytelling is just incredible.

Also, my boss when I was at MindValley, got me to read "Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die", that illustrates perfectly the power of storytelling.

My favorite writer on the planet is Harlan Ellison. He writes mostly short stories and novellas. He has written everything from comics to TV shows and movie scripts. You will get hooked from the very first sentence. Here is a link to his stuff: ELLISON and here is a link to his movie "

Thanks for the recourses on copywriting. I am a student of copywriting myself. Whenever I read a sales letter, I will always look at how they use words to sell me the product. And I should not agree more that if you have good copywriting skill, you'll never go hungry. :-)

My objection to the unfoldin' of this narrative-themed discourse into future whenavah is to question how feebly time's unopposable emergence has been afforded significant comment since (its WF-generated manifestation circa) 11-20-12.

From between the flaps of my so sucko ass, dear pleasy, remove from me such painfully unimaginative narrative ramroddo as would thrust upon me all hole-punched sorrow!

Prolly this thread should be squirtin' its innards out into the cosmos, but right now it is lookin' like a saggy cactus pullin' on fluid for wanta finitely projectile spikes.

Story is wanton, abundant, evident — yet the thread here knits its plot fulla holes, unspeakableness slashed as vacuums between momentary commentary.

Hole fillers should wanna rise to fill a hole, so c'mon y'all.

Otherwise, vacuous shibboleths like moi will hijack evrythin' you hold so dear with our insubstantial dilution of spaces you vacated.

If I am honest, I believe my own suffix to the main event to be the worst kinda florid regurgitation, but I figure the remains of a decent meal bounce across the tablecloth along with the gastric splash.

I was jus' thinkin' of the post's self-contained narrative.

It is like evry superhero in town lands right at the start, only to be defeated by the forces of Default Vacuum Guy in the absence of conflict, explosions, or further exotic costoom displays.

So here is a link I kinda liked.

Hope it appeals to evryone's inner alchemicist.

It's a good list, though you should have included Vogler's "The Writers Journey"

Its a goldmine all by itself in terms of putting together outlines.
