Wondering about your opinion on ecom stores with a blog:

Do you believe its a better idea to have your blog/store on the same url either using a subfolder or subdomain or is it better to have a totally separate url altogether?

From what I see the larger ecom stores with blogs seem to completely separate the two. However I fail to see the reasoning behind this as seems it would be better to have one large authority site no?

Your opinions are appreciated =-)

Same. SEO is hard and expensive enough. Kill 2 birds w/ one stone. They will strengthen each other w/ their juice. The blog especially will help the store. = more $

  • Agree with the poster above me. Traffic to your blog means traffic to your store. It would be a shame to put in so much time and effort getting people to your blog, if they couldn't easily connect to your shop. Any thoughts on what kind of site/shopping cart you're looking at using?

Yep, it's ALMOST ALWAYS best to have your blog on your store's domain (and preferably within a sub-directory rather than subdomain). It takes a lot of work to get eye balls and links to your blog, so you may as well let that benefit your entire domain (rather than just the domain the blog is on).

Figured authority wise it made sense yet as examples big sites like this use a separate store page:

      blog -- https://www.bulletproofexec.com/
      store -- https://www.upgradedself.com/

      large fitness site:

      blog- Blogilates
store - oGorgeous Gym Boutique - Home

Sure there's a reason... They did (or didn't) pay a small phenomenal fee for someone to give them some bad advice about SEO, domain authority, and site structure.

Radio Shack made it seem like a great idea to toss out all of the authority and quality they built with their private brands and to start selling every other brand they could get their hands on. (It was their answer to competing with Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.) And now most of the stores they tried to compete with are gone -- and so is most of Radio Shack as they are emerging from bankruptcy and closing like 1300 stores over the next month.

There MUST be a reason why they gave up the corner of the market they owned and decided to play the game like the smaller store chains... Doesn't make it a good reason any more than pointing at some large retailer website and reasoning that there must be a good reason for the things they do.

I'm no website expert or SEO expert, but I've done enough coding and hosting to know that sometimes a simple answer works best. I've followed this thread for two days now and I think you're on the right track keeping everything on one domain.

Also, have you ever done a Google search and seen the top result show with sub-results specific to that domain just under it? (If not, go to Google and type Warrior Forum in the search box.) You will NOT get results like that by putting various sub-lets of your site on different domains.

        Hope that helps!

These guys may have been around for ages when SEO was easy to r ank and their sites have an automatic cult following by now. I couldn't imagine anyone starting out now that would do this. It would be a waste of time and money.
