What are the differences between magento and shopify? Which is the best to Opt for?

    Magento is a self-hosted ecommerce system done in php with Zend Framework
    Shopify is a all in one system that you rent each month.

    I prefer by far to deploy a Wordpress with Woocommerce instead of Magento, even that I have the skills to develop with Magento.

    If you have zero knowledge in coding...go with Shopify

    Woocommerce is my favourite too.

    Magento is great if you have shxt load of items to sell

    Shopify is hosted and has pre-built templates you can choose from. It has a monthly fee, but you also get support.

    Magento is free (if you aren't using the enterprise software), and is self-hosted - meaning you are in charge of getting the site live and protected. It's great for people who have web dev/design experience, since you build the store on your own. There isn't support, but you get access to forums and archived posts where other developers have shared tips and code.

    Both are great options. Just depends on your comfort/skill set developing sites!

    Main Differences between magento and shopify
    1 Shopify is a commercial product ,while Magento Community is a free, open-source software
    2 Shopify is a hosted solution while Magento requires that you provide your own hosting, install, setup and configure everything before you can actually start creating your store – something requiring medium to high level of web development and programming skills.
    3. While both Shopify and Magento Community are fairly powerful ecommerce hosting platforms, Shopify provides greater ease of use since it is a hosted and fully managed service.

    May I interest what kind of store are you planning to run? Or even - do you have any experience in store management? The thing is that Magento and Shopify are like the most opposite shopping carts ever. Magento suits best for big-sized stores and requires technical knowledge (or hiring a technical engineer), whilst Shopify is great for small/medium stores (unless it's Shopify+), but can be operated even by a child. Since both are top-notch e-Commerce solutions, the choice depends on your requirements.

      You can ask, but he will not reply. He posts almost identical threads all over the forum and never replies to anybody. He's got another thread about Magento and Woocommerce going at the moment, plus a couple of almost identical other threads.

      I'm afraid that everybody who is trying to be helpful is simply wasting their time and energy on this guy who incidentally isn't based in New York but, surprise, surprise is from India.

    I tend to think as Shopify as more for people who don't have much experience with web development and would need their ecommerce store to be ready to use straight out of the box, whereas Magento is more for pros who want to be able to - and have the ability to - build their store from scratch.

    Magento is a lot more flexible than Shopify - Shopify only lets you change certain things, whereas Magento lets you do what you want.

    Shopify has a few different pricing plans, whereas Magento has two - Magento Commerce, which is free, and Magento Enterprise which costs dependant on your needs/usage.

    Shopify is hosted, Magento isn't.

    Ultimately, Magento is more suited to the kind of person who knows a lot about web development/programming, and Shopify is best for someone who knows little about web development.
