At what point is it too late to try and sell a product?

When it comes to choosing products to sell, I'm realizing it'll be incredibly rare for you to be the first person trying to sell it. I get discouraged when I see what appear to be wildly successful campaigns for that same product. Should I not be? At what point is there no point attempting to sell on of these products?

There is never such a point. If you are trying to find something where there is no competition, the only thing that is guaranteed is that you will be trying to sell something that nobody wants (unless, of course, you have invented something like a teleportation device).

Actually, I should amend the above ...

It's too late to sell a product when it is no longer in demand (i.e. iPhone 3GS cases). As long as people still want it, it's something to consider selling. You just have to be better at marketing it than the competition.

Of course, we prefer selling things that are in relatively high demand that do not have a ton of difficult to beat competition on page one of the SERPs. That's what our whole model is based on and there are plenty of opportunities for setting up niche websites around those products if you have the right tools and know how to do it.

Well of course if something is in demand, it's worth trying to sell but that's the problem. You don't really know, do you? It's one thing if we were simply talking about iphone cases but usually we're talking about random products found on Ali. What's a way to test if they are still in demand?

Sorry, the statement in your original question, "when I see what appear to be wildly successful campaigns for that same product", led me to believe that you already knew about the demand.

  • I dont think there's a point like that.
    everything takes time and strategy.
you should focus on your strategy rather than to be the first to sell a product.
