Hello,
I have learned so much from WF, I have been lurking around here for around 8 months now and decided to take action. I will be creating website for long tail phrase keyword with only one focus - getting ranked 1# Google.

I am targeting the keyword "energy efficient electric heaters". I created the website with the domain as my keyword, "energyefficientelectricheaters.org".

I am looking to post 3 articles during the next week and with SEO I hope to get it ranked to Page 1 of Google within 2-3 weeks. I will be using products from Amazon.

Now this is where the problem lies. There are 532 products under the "energy efficient electric heaters" category, furthermore, they range from $30-$2000! I was planning on using my 3rd post as the "money maker", usually you would do a review right? But that would be for only one product in such as large sector - I wouldn't know which one has more brand recognition and wether my target market is looking for cheap or expensive heaters. Now I thought of a couple ways to get around this but both have problems:

1) I thought of making it into an eCommerce site - that way I could promote 100+ products. Also, I can vary the products - promoting cheap and more expensive (over $500) products. But I am not using pages on my website, just posts on the homepage so I don't loose "link juice". How could I integrate an eCommerce website in a way that I can direct the customer from my post to the products on another page with a high CTR, but at the same time ensuring customers do not get lost/sidetracked and end up back on Google search page.

2) Instead of writing a review, write a regular informational article and then recommend 5-10 products with their pictures and prices. As I said before I am not sure what my target market is and hence the pricing range for my products could be WAY OFF. This means my website will not convert.

Both of these solutions will create a completely different personality to my website. The eCommerce site would mean it is strictly shopping, which could do well for this niche. But the 2nd solution may also do well as people may want to read a bit about "energy efficiency".

I hope you can understand this, I basically dont know how I should to promote my products on my site to maximize profits. Please understand this is all about maximizing my profits if it ranks well.

I hope to hear from fellow warriors on their ideas.

PS. Where is a good place to research for my niche. Wikipedia came to mind but I was wondering if there are any other good places.

Here is my advice, all of which is based off experience.

I promote women's shoes, today mainly to a list, but about 18 months ago I created three websites. One was a simple "tips and tricks to looking" blog. Another was a top-ten style website where every article was a top ten list for women's shoes.

Finally I created an affiliate ecommerce site, that promoted the items as if the customer would be buying them from the actual site, instead of being forwarded to the actual merchant.

First let me talk about this mammoth e-commerce site that I created. You know exactly how many women's shoes exist? Specifically high heel shoes? To complicate matters I insisted that every product listing was original and unique, so that I had a decent chance of raking in search engine traffic.

1500+ products (from a variety of merchants) and roughly two months later I had "completed" the site. Pain in the ass to do, lots of work and didn't generate nearly the amount of income as my list does today, nor any of the other sites I created around this niche.

I still have the tips and tricks blog and the top ten site. They generate far more profit per hours worked than the ecommerce style site did.

Of course you could always upload the descriptions, titles and images that the merchant gives you--but then you wouldn't appear unique to not just the algo's, but the people actually finding and looking at your site.

In my experience, review articles, top ten lists, and simple tips and tricks content was far easier to do and provided a larger bang for my buck.

Coupon's, more specifically exclusive coupons are what really drives my income these days. Promoted to my list, that was built using forum marketing. Hope that can give you some insight.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Sounds good, I like the top ten idea, because thats the kind of content that people share - which = natural backlinks.

After I posted this ive been looking about and after what I heard from you im gonna definately drop the eCommerce idea.

      Thanks alot for the insight.

        .
With a domain name of energyefficientelectricheaters.org, I wouldn't count too much on people sharing your content. The site screams "spam", whether you have good content or not.

Also, you do realize that "energy efficient electric heaters" only gets 390 exact-match searches per month according to the Google keyword tool, right?

According to Samurai Market, which actually gathers information from Google Keyword Tool gave me 1600 exact searches. Even though 1600 is still low, I figured its a market worth jumping into as the average CPC was over $1.50(cant rememebr exact number). Furthermore there is no competition so I reckon I can easily rank #1.

Also, using the your exact keyword as your domain gives you an unfair advantage over your competitors for that keyword. I may not have any experience but it has been proven time and time again - a friend of mine sealed the deal for me as he showed me his 33 sites that are ranked #1 by using this method. Im not saying its the only, but it just makes climbing the ranking alot easier.

I know what MS is. I own it as well. I'm not sure what you are looking at but I think you have bad info. Just a heads up since the actual Google keyword tool is saying otherwise. You might want to plug your keyword into the Google keyword tool and re-check.

Looking at page one of the SERPs, there are a ton of PR3+ pages from heavy hitters such as lowes, home depot, and even a .gov site.

Eh, this used to be true a few years ago. The strategy is no longer nearly as effective as it once was. More and more EMDs are being bounced from the SERPs for good reason.

Just a heads up that you may be building your business on quickand.

Many believe EMDs are over, after the last Penguin update. What you're alleging is kinda 2008.
