What's The Best Ecommerce Store Builder?

That is a loaded question and one you can't just say, X is the best store builder. I am sure many on here will start piping in with, Y is the best cart, no Z is the best cart. There are multiple shopping cart platforms and they each have pros and cons based on functionality that you need.

Do you want self hosted or SAAS?
How technical are you?
How many products?
How many SKU's?
How many options or option sets?
How many categories and/or subcategories of products do you have?
Do you need the ability to do subscription type business.
Do you need to sell wholesale and retail? How much wholesale functionality do you need?
Particular payment provider you need?
US based or worldwide shipping?
Need full time shipping quotes?
Need MAP functionality?
What about coupons and discount codes?
Are you dropshipping? Need multi-warehouse functionality?
How much of a third party eco-system do you want?
Are you using a Mac or PC (yes, sometimes it makes a difference).
Do you need high res photos or will standard res photos work just fine?

Answer those questions and you can drill down at what carts provide the functionality and fit those criteria. I have worked with Shopify, BigCommerce, Americommerce, 3dCart, Opencart, Magento, Prestashop and others. They all have pros and cons, some do things better then other, some have a lower cost of running.

Beware anyone that says any 1 cart is the one you should use unless they know exactly what your needs are.

if you use self hosted, wordpress and woocommerce plugin is a very good combination, free as well.

if not, bigcommerce and shopify are the biggest 2 players. they both have their good points and bad points, it depends on what functionality you need, and how technical you are, etc., like OnlineStoreHelp said above.

I personally prefer bigcommerce because of their drag n drop design interface.

I would strongly suggest using Magento. That's what we use for our clients now though previously we used osCommerce, opencart, cartweaver etc and we are happy with the transition we have made.

None - they all suck for their own reasons

But I use Big Commerce, and it sucks for a lot of reasons. If you're a real "marketer" you find that all systems are inflexible cause the guys who build em don't expect you to really want to "do" much of anything other than have some items in a category. Crummy, but true. So no matter where you go, you will have to hack work-arounds like crazy if you're serious.

So in my eyes, what does google love is important, and big commerce has shown me love there, where magento fell naturally on it's face. I would imagine both WP and shopify would also show love right out of the box in googles robot eye's

by the way, the suggestion about using magnento might be a bad one if you're a newbie. The templating system is a coding nerds biggest wet dream, but in reality, it's very difficult to navigate. I also found gaining traffic was troublesome. I started on magento (seasoned ecomm guy though), and when I switched away (because it was too much of a PIA to administrate) my traffic DOUBLED in 20 days, and i didn't do a dam thing other than move platforms.

I added some effort and my traffic SHOT through the roof.

I still have a magento store with a different company I own. Hosting is expensive!!! and it never really took off very well. I'm about to kick the can on it.

As someone who has been in the ecommerce game for a long time, i would recommend BigCommerce they are BEST ALL ROUND hands down. Especially good as you can integrate with ebay andfacebook and use your bigcommerce platform to manage all sales great from this one platform great SEO too....

Check out this infographic comparing Bigcommerce, Shopify etc. and what to choose. This decision is based on your needs. I have used bigcommerce a lot and therefore usually recommend it. But shopify is a very good solution as well.

I use wordpress too and its great but id recommend EKM Powershop for ecommerse as its so easy to use. Have a look at one of my sites skunkrevolution com. i have used a few and is the simplest and best looking in my opinion. i started using them back in 2010, about a year ago they took over tiger commerce and ever since they seem to keep coming out with new stuff to make it even better. I think the first month is free too.

It's hard to pick one, first we need to figure out your goals. Anyway, my personal favorite is Wix, but Bigcommerce is pretty good too. Of course they all have their pitfalls, so you should probably do a research before committing to any of them. I suggest that you use BigCommerce for your website as it allows you set up a website and set up a secure shopping cart for your clients .

Self Hosted Wordpress w/ WooCommerce, Shopify, or BigCommerce are the ones I would go with.

as far as trustworthy e-commerce store i will suggest you to try shopify store. It is very simple and easy to use with their several plugin.

It depends on your requirement, because all the ecommerce platform like Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, PHP etc. fulfill most of the customer requirements.
