Email address problem

Hi Hope some of my fellow warriors can help me here please.

In setting up a website some time ago I started to get registrations from visitors to the site, I now have just under 5000 registrations, here is the problem.

I receive the registrations in an email with the username and email address in the body of the email.

Up until now I have been sending emails to these individuals simply by clicking on the address in the body of the email but this is getting to be a very time consuming task as you can imagine.

Does anyone know of a way of collecting the email details from within the body of these 5000 emails and collecting them as a say CSV file so that I can write to them more efficiently and perhaps register them for future activity through an autoresponder. Listing them individually is a massive task if I can automate it so much the better.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There isn't really a standard way to do this. I, at one point, actually put all my Email into a database. This was back when I only had about 2GB. Oh SURE, it doesn't sound like much NOW! Back then, IT WAS! Anyway, what I would do, using standard methods, would be to have a normal SMTP type protocol, built into most email clients like this, pull the emails from the server. If you have access to the mail directory on the server, most store email THERE the same way. I would then have a REGEX compatible language, like PERL, parse the email, and preferably the name as well, and put them in a CSV or whatever format was deemed best.

It IS a relatively simple task for someone that has programmed. REGEX just makes parsing simpler. The longest and hardest part is pulling the emails, but you usually DON'T have to do that if you have access to the mail directory on the server. MOST UNIX/LINUX systems, for example, have a setup like I am talking about, and you generally have direct access to that directory EVEN if you have a cheap shared account. For windows, it might be a bit more complicated with servers like exchange. I haven't done this directly with exchange, but it may store them the same way. ALSO, outlook stores them in a more complicated way, but most other email clients DON'T!

BTW third party email providers will generally NOT recognize such signups, as they technically aren't even single opt sign ins!

Many thanks Steve for taking the time out to help, this sounds a bit complicated for me I am in my dotage and was hoping there would be some software that would plough through the folder and pull out the emails from the body of the emails.

But again many thanks for taking time out to offer a valuable idea.

      regards

Hi Many thanks for trying to help I have had a look at the programme but it would appear to need each email fed in individually I was hoping there wiould be software that would look at the email folder and identify the email addresses hidden in the message body.

But again I appreciate your help

You can use an email sending software to send massive emails at a time. I think for your huge target this will be best.

Hi thanks for helping but I only have emails containing an address inside the message body to send in bulk as you suggest surely one would need the individual emails in a doc such as a spreadsheet. Or am I missing something. Just to re-iterate at the moment I need to open each individual email then click on the email address in order to send an email a long and drawn out process.

Send Safe List Manager has a feature where you can extract emails from a text file and then put them into a new csv or text file.

Do you have 5000 emails or 1 email with 5000 in it?

What do you need to strip out of the email?

Can you post an example? Doesn't have to be real, just so I can see what format it is in.
