best image file for emails?

I've been embedding 8 x 11 sized flyers into my blast emails lately. I make them on word/publisher and then convert them to JPG by using zamzar.com . However, I feel like after I convert them to JPG the quality kind of takes a hit.

I know there's a few different image files that I can convert it to like GIF, PNG , is there a file that will give me better image quality over the JPG's that I have been using?

  • I had a similar problem before and what I did was save the original design as .png and then converted the png to jpg. Made a huge difference, but not sure why. However the png file was much larger than the jpg that I initially saved it as. So I'm thinking maybe the png was much higher quality and when converted to jpg it just came out looking better. Could of just been the program I was using???

    As to best to use...whatever looks the best as the smallest file size is what I use. But overwhelmingly I use jpg.

    • Yeah this likely helps because of transparencies in the initial png keeping it reduced and that meta data not getting passed on. Good tip.
  • The file should not be heavy and easy to open. You must check emails should not not go in spam folder.

  • PNG is larger size, way larger, but also not compressed losing quality as in JPG. if that online converter is reducing the quality a lot when converting, I'd look for another converter. I use Photoshop myself and compress from there, OR even better option is to pass your JPG's through JPEGMini and then put in emails/website whatever, also free up till 20 photos per day: JPEGmini | Download the Free Mac App If you don't have actual photos in those flyers, just opt for .GIF conversion instead.
