Email Writing Resources

any recommendations on the best stuff to read for learning how to write emails for maximum open rates?

i've signed up for a lot of lists to see how other people are doing it. but its really not constant, some guys are writing 500 words, while others are short and to the point.

what are the best things to read? i think shorter is better but i'm new to this.

According to Jim Cockrum, shorter emails that have some value tend to convert better and have higher open rates. Remember, 80% content and 20% promotion.

Be Unexpected.... create lot of variations in your emails.... shorter one, longer one, html, plain text, single link, multi link, some times no link.... get lot of variations, always have surprise for your readers....

I would say to keep your promoting and providing free advice e-mail content separate.

You need to build trust first before trying to promote. Think of it as giving value for free builds trust, promoting decreases trust (unless you do it right).

So build trust first by giving value for free, then promote only if it fits your subscriber's needs/wants. That way your subscribers may even treat a promotion as if you are 'looking out for them'.
