A Question about YTB....

Hi, Everyone;

Hey, I know a guy who CLAIMS tro be doing very well with YTB, which is a Travel/Affliate/MLM kind of organization. I don't know much about them.

I LOVE travel, and i have always kind of wanted to be involved in it as a business, even if it was just an affiliate website arrangement.

So, does anyone here have any real expercience with YTB, or know something good/bad about it?

MLMs scare me.....

Thanks!

Dave

      Dave;

Your post is the perfect example why MLM's can be hard to work. Most of your potential customers have the exact same feelings you do about programs like that. So you are trying to convince everyone. But first you have to convince yourself.

If something is hard for you to join and sign up for... You're going to have to work really hard to get signups?

Some people can do MLM well. Some people struggle with them (I am one of those)

I took a real long look at YTB but something just didn't feel right about it. I can't even pin it down to something specific. Just a feeling. It might be awesome BUT...

I would only give it a go, if I could afford to lose the money.

I think you have to sell your soul to the company first.

I don't know much about MLM, but just get a couple books on it. I think you have to be a good peoplesperson to be doing well in MLM and have LOTS of persistence.

I think you can learn a lot from MLM, but be careful. Most aren't "scams" but you have to really work your ass in order to be successful.

A good part about MLM is the atmosphere, you can really develop a good mindset from being around like minded people. Much like the WarriorForum =]

If you love the product, it seems like you do. And if this niche is something you really want to be a part of, then what are the costs? If it's not outrageous I say go for it.

You have a few options in your niche i feel. You can be a traditional travel agent. You can be 100% online travel affiliate... or you can join that MLM company.

I read that the #1 criteria to judge an MLM company is it's training. How is the training? Remember that MLM really is direct sales. You will be selling, and they would like it if you sold to your friends and family.

You have to learn to sell in order to be successful, so it's good stuff. You gotta believe in the product.

YTB hit some legal bumps because they were basically issuing
"travel agent" cards to people who were anything BUT qualified.

The Travel Agents Association (whatever it is called) decided that
having mlm companies basically operate as "card mills" was bad
for their industry so they cracked down.

One of the reasons people were joining YTB was to get the cards
because if you have one you can get cheap cruises and hotels
under the guise of a travel professional checking places out.

Once the benefit of the easy cards went away a lot of people
were no longer motivated to pay their monthly fees and the
    sales organization suffered.

On that topid - did you know what mlm really is?

You'll get a lot of hyperbolic answers about it being a ""sharing
    business" and other nonsense.

MLM is about recruiting, training and motivated a sales force
of amateurs with no experience. That's why it's a tough business -
because sales is tough and sales force management is even tougher.

Good luck anyway. As long as you are interested in a selling
business and willing to work on your skills you may be able to
make some money... and if you have a gift for motivating people
you may be able to really prosper.

Guys, thanks for your replys! That's why i love this place.

My interest is not to join an MLM. I don't think that an MLM would fit my nature. There is another MLM that i have considered joining that is based on a niche near and dear to me, BUT, because it IS an MLM, i probably won't.....just because I want to sell the PRODUCT, not the SYSTEM.

What I REALLY want is simply to have a Travel Website with some form of affiliate program attached. I have seen some nice sites that have a lot of capability, but they all seemed to be MLMs on one level or another.

      any other thoughts?

Travel is a tough, tough, very competitive field

At for YTB, you might be interested in this:
Learn How to Earn 101: Do you think you'll be able to make money with YTB?

I have a cousin who has been a real pest about getting me to join. I do a lot of travel and could probably save some money but I believe in working with a professional and I am not (nor is my cousin) a professional TA.

As for a travel site...I have two blogs about travel...and post affiliate ads at both. I make a little bit of money from both...but nothing I'll quit my day job yet for.
