Text to Speech - Any free softwares?

Hey guys,

I have AT&T natural voice - text to speech software with me. But its not compatible with W7. Can anybody suggest any other good, free/open source text to speech software with multiple voices?

      Nope - text to speech. Some thing like ispeech.org offers. but they have only one voice.

      Windows Narrator comes with Windows 7.

      Not sure how good it is - but I think you can get different 'voices' for it.

    None of the free stuff works well. I personally got the best results from Dragon NaturallySpeaking, but it's not free.

      Its speech recognition right? I mean voice to text. Isn't it? I am looking for text to voice softwares.

        I think it does both. I just checked their website and I see that the "Preferred" version and anything above that has this:

        Text-To-Speech in editable text: a synthesized voice reads out text you designated

    This may be useless for the OP since you're on Windows,
    but for the Mac users reading...

    Mac OS X comes with serviceable Text-To-Speech built-in
    to the operating system.

    Just choose a voice in the control panel and turn it on:

    Apple > System Preferences > Speech control panel

    Then highlight the text you want "spoken", and choose
    the Services > Speech > Start Speaking Text command
    from the Application's menu.

    just like mac windows system also has got a text to speech system. But its not that natural. Thats why I am looking for some more good softwares.

    Hey,

    I used Acapela before. It's free and comes with different voices. How I did was I go to their website, click "Demo & More", copy & paste my sentence, select the voice that I want and click say it. Then I save the file into mp3 using RealPlayerDownloader.

    This may sound tedious but it works fine with me most probably because I only need to convert short text to speech.

    I had experience with another TTS software from Smartlink too. It doesn't have too many choices for voice but the voices are more human natural than Acapela. And it have this virtual speaking human available for you to download and embed to your website. You can also purchase the software from Smartlink website if you need.

    You can always check here: eSpeak: Speech Synthesizer

    Sourceforge specializes in free software. My office software came from that site, and it is always the first place I look for any program.
