Youtube video as website background ?

I know personally how to do this, as i am a programmer. I'm also working on a WP plugin that will be able to do this to WP sites.

What do you think ? Would you be interested in having a youtube video as a background in your website ? Should i release it as a WSO ?

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
Alex

Would the video play as soon as you click on the page? I am not sure, would it be distracting? I mean will the video cover the whole page or half the page like above the fold? It may be worth a try to see conversion rates. Possibly.

Ps. What if instead of hunting people down until they begged you to stop... pre-qualified prospects actually sought you out and asked you what you do and how you do it? Click here.

You could set it when to play (if it should as soon as the page loads, or the user would have to click something..etc). The user could also have buttons to stop it, replay it, pause/start it, hide it completely..anything would be possible.

I could make it load the whole page, or half of page, anything is possible here as well :-) What do you think it would be best ?

      Thanks for your opinions.

I would be interested if it works on any page of my choice and works with all themes.

I have been thinking about using one of those as a part of a product launch (full page videos with only a nav bar showing) already with wp themes already out. But it would be dope if I weren't forced to some themes

I have done it with themes already made and load time wasnt an issue for me. Maybe if there are a ton of people on I guess, but when it was just me testing it on shared hosting was lightning quick

Yeah, i thought that would be an issue..But it wouldn't affect the loadtime of the rest of the website. Just the background would load a little slower, the site would be there before the background.

About a year ago I did a site with a youtube vid that played in the background for a client. The site worked great... on my end. On hers, it took too long to buffer, therefore it was a complete sham. Save your time.

Well, that was one user with loading issues..i'm sure she had internet problems or anything like that. I tested on a few computers with different internet connections this thing and works quite nicely.

Some countries have rather slow internet services (typically 1 to 4 MB in speed).

For that reason, you better not to use high relosultion images and/or videos on any of your websites in those countries.

Nope, I don't think so. It can be a distraction and would be an additional burden to the loading time.

I don't seem to like the idea of having a youtube video as a website's background as I reckon it would be distracting. Personally, I'm more interested to see the content of the site and the products/services section and having a video as a background would seem as if the site was built for that.

    Just my two cents.

I agree with this 100%. While it seems like it'd be a cool idea, I can't imagine that would do anything but hurt conversions. Personally, I'd have to see some pretty crazy evidence on conversions to consider purchasing something like that.
