Do I need multiple Paypal accounts?

I'm setting up a membership site with a Paypal subscription button but I don't want to use my personal Paypal because if I ever sell my website I won't be able to separate my personal account from my membership subscribers.

So my question is how do you setup multiple membership sites using paypal without having to setup several bank accounts to certify each one?

Thanks

PayPal does not allow multiple accounts for the same user.

Although I think you could get new accounts if you created new registered business entities. But be careful PayPal can punish by association.

It is not a problem selling a site. The new owner will simply change the code for the button to code for their PayPal account.

You can have multiple email addresses for a single PayPal account.

For multiple member sites you could use a new email for each site and add each email to the single PayPal account.

But I do I transfer my paying members that are already subscribed? Changing the code in the subscription button won't transfer them right?

I just want you to know that I have 5 PayPal accounts. I have what PayPal calls one Parent PayPal account and 4 child PayPal accounts. My PayPal representative suggests more than one PayPal account.

With my child PayPal accounts the money only stays in the child accounts for 24 hours and then is automatically transferred to my parent PayPal account.

Plus the OP says he has a personal PayPal account and is trying to do business with his personal account. Personal accounts have limitations. He can also open a business PayPal account and that will give the OP two PayPal accounts one for personal and a business PayPal account to do business.

The child PayPal accounts allows me to have the customers checkout with the business name that is tied to the product I'm selling and uses a different email address.

I hope this has been helpful,

So there's no way of keeping my membership sites separated? I have to put everything in to one account but then I can't transfer the subscriptions to someone else, right?

Paypal is not going to let you transfer someone's payment subscription from one paypal acct to another. I think that's against US consumer law and PP is US based.

Unless there's been a recent change, if a subcription payment is changed the person must re-subscribe. This means verifying they want to stay in the membership. I've seen people say "you can just change the code" but I've never seen Paypal allow that without a re-verification from members.

It sounds hard but doesn't have to be. When you sell a membership site, work with the new buyer to provide some sort of bonus or gift that makes people WANT to remain a member. They will verify (opt in) to the new paypal acct and if done well it can be almost seamless.

Note: do NOT use a personal Paypal acct for business. You can have two accounts in your name with different email and bank accts. If you accept online payments you need a Premier or Business Paypal acct.

We have multiple accounts for multiple enterprises. PayPal actually separated them and set them up for us.

Call them (easy to do) and explain your situation. They'll tell you what you'll need for the set up you have.

UNLESS you're trying to manipulate the system, then they are the least of your worries.

You are allowed one personal and one business account.

You are allowed to upgrade your personal account to business.

If you have ONE personal and ONE business and you then upgrade the personal to business does that mean you are allowed TWO business accounts? No. (?)

I was simplifying my view that one personal + one business = one paypal account.

PayPal is generally trying to reduce fraud. As was mentioned, if you have special needs fro multiple accounts PayPal may be willing to work with you.

If you plan on selling the business, I would form a corporation. Then open the PayPal business account under the corporations legal name. That way when you sell the business, the corporations PayPal account can be transferred to the new owner easily.

If you stick to running the business as a sole proprietor then like others have said. PayPal allows you to personally have 1 personal account and 1 business account only.

To clarify - you do not have to have a personal acct. I have a Premier and a Business.

That isn't the real issue here. The issue is you can't change the terms of a subscription without the agreement (re-subscribing) of those who pay for that subscription.

I honestly don't know how paypal handles payments in a business acct if a corporation is sold. Technically, members are still paying the corporation. However, if the corporation changes bank accts and names....I don't know if memberships could be "transferred" without a problem or not. I'd want specific info from Paypal about that if I were planning on doing it.

I think you can only have more than one PP account if you move to a new country, other than that you'll get in trouble for creating more than one account in your name

    Thanks for all the replies!

I setup my personal account as a business account and used it for my subscription button. When those membership sites are turning a profit then I'll worry about it. I guess I'm getting ahead of myself, right now it's just a waste of time.

Yeah, PayPal allows 2 accounts for each individual. Simply use your Personal account for your transactions and open up a business account for the membership site. When you sell the membership site, simply remove your email and bank account details and allow the new owner use their own email and bank account details on the business paypal account.

You can go ahead and open up an new business account for your next business venture.

    Hope this helps. Regards.

You can apply for a business account and use your same bank account to verify your business account. PayPal allows two PayPal accounts per bank account.

If you already have a Business account you can open a child PayPal account. This way you can brand the PayPal account you use for your membership site.

The money that goes to your child PayPal account is automatically transferred to your parent PayPal account within 24 hours.

I would suggest you call PayPal support and you can set up the type of PayPal account that will work best for you.

If you are trying to use a personal PayPal account you are limited to only so many transactions so you do need to either upgrade to a business PayPal account or open a new business PayPal account.

Depending on your credit rating, you could open a Payments Pro or WebPayments Pro account. This will allow you to accept credit cards with out having the buyer go to PayPal to pay if you want to set the system up.

Do not fill out the application for a Pro account without some help from a PayPal representative because some of the choices can put you in what PayPal calls a high risk classification and then you will not be able to get rid of that high risk flag that will cause you problems.

I hope this has been helpful,

I have had multiple PAYPAL accounts for a long time and make sure you have a business or premium account! " From Paypal Yes. You can have one Personal account and one Premier or Business account. You can add more email addresses, debit or credit cards, and bank accounts to your account, but each account must have its own email address and financial information. You can also upgrade your Personal account to a Premier or Business account."

I agree, I have multiple PayPal accounts but you can only tie one bank account or credit card to only 2 PayPal accounts. Because of this I had one bank open a child checking account, which gave me a new account number from the same bank and a new credit card.

However, I also needed to open a new account at another bank to cover other PayPal accounts. Most people don't know that you can open child PayPal accounts that allow you to have a different business name to go along with the product you are selling through that child PayPal account.

So right now I have 5 PayPal accounts and is why I had to open a new bank account so that all of them could be verified PayPal accounts.

I hope this has been helpful,
