need plr rewrite tips

OK, trying to go through with editing and rewriting the plr I got and having a hell of a time. Once I change one thing everything else changes making it a constant PITA and a huge time consumer. I'm using Word now, but is there any other format which is better to do what needs to be done to plr's?
I looked up some setup tips for Word and still can't seem to get it right. I know can't be this difficult and its just me. So any help would be great.
Thanks, Brad

Edit: Ahh, you mean word processing tips not rewrite tips?

What format is the document in? Is it a native Word document or is that just the program you are using?

    • Yes, what you said. And it's the program I'm using.

  • Hard to offer concrete suggestions not knowing exactly what the problem is.

Editing regular text shouldn't be a problem.

You could be running into "Fields" that are like variable place holders. Where a field of text is called 'Title' and whatever text is put in that field appears everywhere in the document that the 'Title' field appears. This is so you don't have to edit the cover page, ToC,Header,Footer, etc. every time the Title, Author, Date, etc. is changed. Instead you make one change in the field and all the other occurrences update and match.

Editing fields directly in the document without knowing you are editing a field variable can cause weird problems.

Instead of editing the filed text directly in the document, right click on the text and choose 'Edit Field'.

After you have done that you need to "Update All Fields" in the document.

Images and tables could also cause problems depending on how they are placed in the document.

Your description doesn't really indicate what the actual problem is so hard to be sure.

"Once I change one thing everything else changes making it a constant PITA and a huge time consumer."

Edit: I agree with OpenOffice (it's what I use though I have both) especially for easy PDF creation.

    • Yea, sorry for being vague, this is all new to me. Downloaded Open Office and the plr automatically is in there. It seem to be doing the same kind of things and it could be the fields you speak of.
If I'm writing within the plr to add content, delete or whatever the typed words I put in don't stay within the original margins or line spacing of the plr. I found edit fields, but it doesn't allow me to do anything. Hope that helps.
  • Like others have already said, kind of hard to help without actually trying to edit the doc.

Have you tried converting it to a different version of Word? Say if it's th latest version, save it as something like word 97. Might strip out some of the things giving you trouble. Seems that has worked for me in the past. Course, once you save it as the different version, you need to close the current and open the newly saved version. Does that make sense?
