A question regarding the eBay affiliate program

Hi guys, I have been using the Amazon affiliate program for a while now and am finally getting decent results. I have a new website that I have decided to use with the eBay affiliate program (mainly due to the country location), but there does not seem to be as much info out there, compared with Amazon.

What I wanted to know was if eBay also used the cookie-based system (and if so, how long does it last?) the same as Amazon, and also if my affiliate link will follow them as they navigate the eBay website, or is only for the linked product/product category?

Thanks.

The Ebay cookie is good for 24 hours. Someone has to make a purchase within 24 hours, or submit a bid within 24 hours and win an auction within 7 days.

The affiliate link is good for the entire Ebay site, but not across different country sites.

The Warrior Forum has historically been an Amazon heavy forum with few using Ebay. The programs are not interchangeable and can require significantly different strategies. In fact, Ebay requires different strategies than just about any other affiliate program due to the auction system, and from the fact every few years management has been making massive changes to the program. It is not like Amazon which has been stable for eons.

When Ebay moved to a 24 hour cookie there was a massive affiliate exodus out of the program - another reason why you will not find too much about the program. Ebay has an affiliate forum, but there has been so much anger about the program Ebay made it private so it is no longer publicly accessible. The biggest Ebay affiliate forum is probably at phpBay, which is also private and paid, so that may also be why you are not finding as much information online. Finally, Amazon's affiliate program is much, much larger.

      Thanks ,that is good info!

The site I am working on is more a personal project, so am not looking to quit my day job with its earnings, but eBay fits the niche better. Also, I am linking to search results, so hopefully that will cover a broader selection of products.

      Thanks again!

Yup, just to confirm it's exactly what kindsvater said, their cookie is just like Amazon - Good for 24hrs.

I've been using EPN for years now, as 'kindsvater' said above there was a mass exodus a of a lot of affiliates some years back when they changed the cookie duration and removed some features. Times were good before the cookie change and a lot of affiliates made a lot of money!

It is what it is though, would I develop a site specifically for promoting eBay today? No.. but I'll continue to have it running as an extra feature on some of my sites.
