beating wikihow?

INTERNET MARKETING

I recently found some highly searched keywords with relatively low competition but the top 2 spots are taken by wikihow and they each have aoubt (50 backlinks non anchored) to the keyword and the 3rd place ranking is a ezine article with 1 backlink.

I want to know if wikihow carries the same type of authority as wikipedia so would it be impossible to rank above it or would it happen rather quick with enough backlinking?

I've just checked out the two sites for you, and my Firefox SEOBook tool gives the following results:
- Wikipedia shows an Alexa rating of 7 and a PageRank of 9/10.
- Wikihow shows an Alexa rating of 792 and a PageRank of 6/10.
So Wikipedia is the stronger of the two, but I wouldn't like to try to outrank Wikihow either, but then I'm far from being an expert on these matters.

Yea funny thing is the wikihow pages only have about 30-40 backlinks with untrageted anchor text so it sounds like it should be easy to rank higher with enough high pr backlinks but at the same time im scared that wikihow is a huge authority page and will take thousands of backlinks to get the top spot

Because this is my first back linking campaigan im uncertain what the right move is.

  Don't sweat it. I beat them out easily for my article. All you have to do is get quality backlinks with good PR. I don't mean backlinks with just high PR, but that are older domains. This carries alot of weight.

If you're competing against WikiHow you have a more serious problem, you're selecting informational keywords, not buying keywords.

For example...

"history of golf" - informational keyword

"discount golf balls" - buying keyword
