Making Money From Scratch In A Live Internet Marketing Contest

Imagine yourself in an internet marketing contest.

Here are the rules of the game:

1. You are not allowed to use your existing email list or even autoresponder account

2. You are not allowed to even use your laptop which could contain all marketing resources and tools you downloaded and saved from the courses you invested.

Instead you will be allocated a brand new laptop or desktop with internet connection

3. You have just 3 days to build your email list and make your first $ from there.

4. However you are allowed to spend up to $500 on autoresponder, domain name, hosting, Wordpress or html theme and all paid methods (optional) you need to drive targeted traffic to your squeeze page, build an email list and make $ from there.

5. Most importantly, you are supposed to do a video documentary explaining everything you do from first to final step on how you build email list and make $ whether or not you win the competition.

The person who makes the most sales within that 3 days wins the top cash prize of say $100K, gets his video documentary converted into an internet marketing course to be endorsed and released to the public and gets to JV with the judges who are all internet marketing experts.

If no sales or when 2 persons have the same amount of sales, the winner will be determined by the size of email list.

The contestants also have to present/pitch to the judges their info product and why the judges should take up the offer.

With that said, this contest is definitely not for newbies or faint-hearted but for those who has a certain amount of internet marketing experience and knowledge of the basics and fundamentals.

In other words, it will be very much like an examination room where you are forced to think and work out of your comfort zone relying on what you have and can work with at that place in the short amount of time.

However, there will still be lunch and tea breaks in between of course .

Suppose if there is such a contest, will you dare to take up the challenge?

The challenge of winning the top cash prize and all other perks for yourself and family?

And what will you do to make sure you win?

The reason I bring this up is that 5 years ago in 2010, there used to be such a contest called Internet Marketing World Cup where internet marketers from all the over the world come together and compete with each other for the top prize and worldwide recogniation as the next Internet Marketing Idol.

It was conducted by a guy called Ken Walker aka Michael Jones who created The Affiliate Code and Killer Video Squeeze Pages in 2010.

But back then, I was still new to building sites and email list so I did not take part.

I also remember such type of training conducted by Joel Comm live on TV series. Participants were trained live and perform in front of judges.

The good news is that IF you win the contest or even come up as 1st or 2nd runners up which come with attractive prizes and rewards too, people will NEVER see you as a typical marketer trying to scam them of their hard-earned money.

They will trust and see you as a go-to-person they want to know, connect and can learn as well as rely upon. Hence they will buy whatever you recommend.

Because by winning the contest, you have proven to them you have what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur or in my own preferred term, internetpreneur since most of your business is run online 24/7.

The problem with this sort of contest is it pushes making money quickly instead of making money the right way; it pushes short term results instead of long term sustainability.

Starting a business -- and internet marketing is a business -- is a marathon, not a sprint. And just like in a long distance race, if you're running as fast as you can at the starting line, you'll never see mile 26.2.

What I mean is that very often, the smart business decision for the long term is to take lower short-term earnings -- or even a short term loss -- in order to increase earnings over the long term. You dedicate long hours and resources to creating top content on your site or social media channels, even though your traffic is paltry at the beginning. You run a PPC campaign at a short-term loss, because you know that with each sale, you're also collecting an email address that you can go back to again and again. You spend weeks or months developing new features on your website -- features that might not immediately impact the bottom line, but improve the user experience in a way that it puts your site on the road to becoming a legitimate authority in your niche. And so on...

So, while it might be fun to see how much you can earn in three days, it really doesn't tell you much at all about your prospects for long term success -- and it doesn't really speak to how good anybody really is at online business. For example, we spent over two months planning and developing our initial website before it went public -- and that was using a Minimal Viable Product model, so it was (and still is) nowhere near where we hope to see it go. So our earnings after three days? $0. But does that mean our business is a failure? Of course not. Actually, I can almost guarantee you that we'll be making more money by year five of our business than any of those winners of the contest you're referencing. But it's taking a long time to get there. Why? Because we're doing things right, not just doing things quick.

But don't just look at our experience. Keep in mind that it took Facebook 5 years to swing a profit and Google about 7. Granted most of us don't have piles of VC money to keep us afloat for 5 years while we streamline our businesses to profitability, but the point is that if you're running your business with an eye toward maximizing your profit in the first year (or even five) -- let alone three days -- you're probably hurting yourself over the long term.

The problem is not everyone thinks like you.

Not all yes but MOST people want FAST results. If not hours and days, at least weeks or by the end of this month.

If I am to share what you just shared in another thread, there will certainly be another person or a few disagreeing.

The biggest challenge and question in my mind which I am pretty sure some of you might be wondering as well is -

How to create a compelling value offer that engages and sells in the shortest amount of time possible?

And this contest is especially created to address and put the participants' skills and knowledge to the test.

Same as with Donald Trump's The Apprentice, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, Wok Stars and Gordon Ramsey's cooking reality shows.

And like all contests, you have limited time, need to present what you worked upon and faced critics from judges who are all REAL experts themselves.

So if you want to claim yourself to be an expert, well this content is your chance to prove you right and others wrong.

Yeah, we get that most people want fast results but that doesn't mean best or even good results. More times than not people get frustrated too quick when they are not seeing the results they want. This goes for anything , weight loss, healing, etc., not just making money.
