How to get started with Shirts? Is there a good "Tees for Dummies" course?

Hi I got a "shirt" domain name and I'd like to get started selling shirts. I know its insanely competitive but I like the product. I was about to go into accessories and changed my mind that selling shirts would be better.

Can anyone recommend a get-started course for selling shirts starting from scratch?
Shirt Business for Dummies?

I'm open to anything from hiring designers to make designs to just having an affiliate site and re-selling other sites shirts.
Whatever works, thanks for any tips!

  • What kind of shirts? There is a very popular forum for tshirts if you just Google it. It's full of information on creating, printing, outsourcing, web design etc for tshirts.

    Marketing wise, most people will need more info to give you any advice.

  • I just got "shirts" for a generic domain name. I'm guessing for now to sell funny tees or graphic shirts. Im open to anything. thanks for the forum suggestion
  • You really only need one thing: CafePress.

    Its help section should suffice as an adequate "for dummies" manual; although being a dummy is never, ever recommended.

    you do not have to design the shirt. click on the hot t-shirts section. ( you already know they are hot) and pick a shirt and market it using face book ads.

    They tell good things about that service in r/entrepreneur. This is one from yesterday.

    So focus on the shirts, use a third-party service for starters (like those others and I mentioned) as selling from your site will be more hassle and you'll need to build a brand, reputation, traffic...

  • I agree with the others that suggested SunFrog. You don't have to design your own shirts. You can simply sell other people's designs.
  • Rather than Google specific t-shirt vendors, Google "print on demand shirts" and "print on demand".

    Beyond shirt suppliers and drop shippers you will also find forums and blogs that detail t-shirt ,design, marketing and selling strategies.

  • I purchased 2 Tee-shirt courses and I have launched two (2) shirts, got 2500 "LIKES" on one, but not one sale. I really don't possess an Inner Designer, so I am leaving T-Shirts to those 'Creative' types.

      But without seeing your design, I would say if you got that many likes, it wasn't bad, maybe just not something people will wear on a shirt.

  • I would advise against buying a "course".

    It's always better to do your own research on a niche product. It may be easy to get started with a cookie cutter business model, or a turnkey solution. But given the high # of competition, you want to come up with a unique product offering.

    Look up unique, powerful competitors and study their user friendly features, design and business model.

    I think threadless.com is a good place to start.
