Hi guys!

I currently have a technology youtube channel and earlier in the year I was looking at branching out into a website (blog) to go along with it. I started it up but soon found that i was finding it difficult to add anything to my videos in a text form and didnt really have time or motivation to post too much.

Another one of my interests is Finances. Im always studying household budgets, deals, money making schemes, and love a good spreadsheet.

I was wondering if I could incorporate this into the same website?

Is technology and Finance a bit of an odd or far spread subject for a website?

The currently tag line of my youtube channel and site is "Reviews, Unboxings,Tutorials Games"

What do you think to changing it to "Technology, Money, Tutorials, Games"? or maybe finance instead of Money?

    All the niches you mention are all very broad. If you want to blog I'd suggest you pick the one niche you're most motivated to engage with, focus in on a narrow sub-niche of that and start blogging. If you're enjoying your work on your youtube tech channel but are not motivated to blog about the subjects, I'd have a rethink about whether blogging is for you. But if you have a specific passion you could try starting a blog just about that, such as spreadsheet tutorials for the home user? Bottom line is trying to 'swiss army knife' several niches into one blog may not be the way to go imho.

    finance is better niche

    I would focus on a sub-niche of personal finance like DIGITAL EXPENSES

    Focus on how to save money on entertainment etc - anything with an angle you can tie into technology/digital entertainment since that's the theme you cover primarily.

    Find out which of those keywords or related keywords have decent search volume and low competition. That will give you the answer on how to structure the skeleton of your site.

      I get between 1500 and 2000 views a day across my videos. A lot of those are from 8 to 10 of the more popular ones.

      What you have identified are several very broad markets - non suitable for a small business owner blog.

      Find a niche that you can serve and that has an identified need. Narrow your focus down to just one thing then become the go-to-guy for that one thing.

      If you try to satisfy several broad markets, or even one broad market, you will have a very difficult time making money. There won't be anything special about what you're doing because you won't be able to cover everything.

    I agree with the above, the tighter the focus of your site the better it will convert. Broader sites may get more traffic, but what really matters is conversion traffic, not overall traffic.

    On the YouTube site it looks like the last time you touched it was 3 years ago so you shouldn't have any current subscribers to worry about. IF you had more recent content and subscribers you would need to explain why you were changing the focus of the site.

    YouTube has changed a lot in the past 3 years so you should get yourself up to date on YouTube and then get your YouTube channel up to date to match current styles/requirements. Use Annotations and YouTube Cards in your YouTube videos to drive traffic to your blog or web site.

      What site where you looking at? I upload videos to my youtube channel every couple of weeks.

    The answer is no. Finance and technology are two different markets. When creating a blog, you should only have theme per blog. This is due to how the search engines work and how people find content online. Also, those markets are really broad, so you're going to have to narrow them down some. For since, when you talk about technology, are you into things like smart phones, computers, or what?
