Selling to India?

Hi folks,

My site gets a lot of comments from India and I'm trying to figure out how to sell to India. The site is a review site for kitchen appliances, Amazon affiliate.

Amazon's affiliate program only lets you set up an Indian affiliate account if you're a resident of India (I'm in the US). Is there a work around for that?

What's the best way of selling to India?

  • You can apply for amazon affiliate program India. You can also join cuelinks to promote some good stuffs and generate some handsome commission.
  • Pay closer attention to your stats

Are people leaving comments for SEO?

    If so, that's worthless traffic.

If people are leaving LINK-FREE comments and are inquiring about your reviews then you might be on to something...

Otherwise, you might not get the return on effort that might make sense in your situation.

    • I completely agree with Hannah. Do you auto approve your comments?

I get a lot of junk comments on my blogs, from different countries' ips. Does not mean that my blog(s) has an audience in those countries.

So, maybe you should do more research on your traffic before you change your links.

  • Use the same methods you use for other countryes. Remember: if you write english add maybe focus your target to the main cityes!
  • No offence to Indian members but from what i've seen and read you are wasting your time with traffic from the Sub Continent... If it was a worthwhile market why are the majority of Indian IM'ers trying to sell to western countries?

    • You are right after adding "majority" word but all world knows Indian market was worthy and it is STILL ..

  • I agree, check the stats and the quality of their comments. I bet many comments were rubbish, repeated comments from other sites, out of topic or nonsense comments that's worse than that of a 5 year old. So what's the reason of all these comments??? Back linking service! Such commenters were doing back linking service (that's no longer effective in today's SEO) but many marketers still do. Go to fiverr.com and you find loads of such services.
  • I don't feel you will make sales from there.

Your better offer focusing on english speaking countries that have money to spend.

Indians take money, they rarely have any.

    Thanks folks!

I'm aware of the spammy comments. The comments I want to reply to are usually along the lines of "How much?" (In which case, I would say - click on the dang button I've provided, but I'm not sure how my current link works in India... )

Amazon offers an India affiliate program, but only for folks who are residents of India

You may be right though ,the effort to figure it all out might not be worth the pay our.
  • flipkart.com is india's largest ecommerce site (bigger than amazon-india). They sell kitchen appliances and allow international associates.
They also pay for install of their android/iphone app. It is an option for you.

Other thing you can try is partner with an Indian resident and use his Amazon-india affiliate link. Have him receive payments from amazon to his bank and send you via paypal etc. Offcourse you may have to pay him a percentage. PM me if this interests you ;-)
  • To be fair... as long as credit cards, Paypal and other online payment processors are being used in a certain country, there exists a good market! I also have numbers of customers from India and South East Asia but we can't deny the fact that the best markets are still the English speaking countries led by the best three US, UK and Australia.

  • A good starting point is Indian e-commerce sites.

It may take some 'tech' knowhow, but you can change your links for those products to aff links from Indian sites with an affiliate program whenever you get traffic from India.

If they're asking you about the price (which my fellow brethren who are new to the online thing often do - they just think they'll get a response on random sites, even news sites), consider adding a button that's on the lines of 'Click Here To Find Out The Price' or the best price etc.

That's a good way to engage them.

PS: As for the person who thinks India sucks - yes, it does. Thanks for your opinion. So do the other 200+ countries out there for one reason or another. If Kim Kardashian is any indication, the US must be quite stupid. Let's stay on topic lol.

  • You can target the country India ONLY with PPC. Adwords and Bing Ads allow you to do this. Along with moblle advertising PPC programs.
