Can someone please tell me the easiest and fastest web site creation tool? I have been using WYSIWYG and it's just taking ages, although I am not new to computers I am new to web site language. I basically want 2 pages, a banner, 3 columns, ads on each side, a blog in the middle and ability to archive as the blogs progress. Thanks in advance.

  • Have you tried wordpress? or if you don't have a hosting acount... there are plenty of 3 column blogger/blogspot templates that would work...

  • You really should consider a blogging platform, especially if you are looking to archive. Doing it manually with html will be a headache if your site grows. Consider free options like blogger or wordpress.

Also, for your learning, there are many freely available html templates that you can use ... by looking at how these are put together and playing with them you can learn a lot.

  • I agree that you should try Wordpress. You can pick a 3-column theme.

But if you want a conventional website follow the link below and choose a template you like:

    30+ Free Three-Column Website Templates

There are some great themes in here and they're free! Choose a template and then edit it in nvu:

    Nvu - Download

Nvu is the easiest free editor I've found. In fact, it's the only decent free one. But it will still require a bit of learning and experimentation so don't get frustrated. There's no truly "easy" way to build websites.

Depending on your objectives you may even want to try this:

Create a Free Website , Free Flash Website Builder at Wix.com

Wix is a flash platform but it's super easy to use and creates great looking sites. Be warned that SEO with flash sites is tricky and you should research this before jumping in.

  • Ben, hey,

you could try Garble. There's a link to it in my signature. It's easier to use the WordPress, allows you to create static looking articles as well as posts, and happens to be free.

    All the best,

    James

  • Oh, and I forgot to mention. You'll end up with a site that bears no relation to Garble if you add your own view, whereas with WordPress, it's likely to always remain a WordPress blog, if you know what I mean.

  • Wordpress has lots of benefits compared to a normal static website and I highly recommend learning more about it.If you are looking for valuable information about Wordpress and are interesting in getting a blog setup, then you should visit these sites:

  • free templates are great. but you will need to find one with all the pages that you need.
fiddle them in your WYSIWYG editor.
i also agree that word press is great and has a lot of free training, but a squeese page and a landing page etc is necessary these days.
    use a video squeeze page.

a good idea is to find a free PLR product that has all those components in it and change those in your editor.

    • Hi Terry. thanks for your reply. I am after a .com website rather than just a blog. Thanks again.

      Here's a pretty good freebie;

      www.MyFreeWebsiteBuilder.com

      Nice instructional tutorial pdf.

I think this was created by Ewen Chia.

Anyway, had a newbie friend try it and she likes it.

  • I'd also recommend that you use Wordpress on your own hosting account.

    Just a tip though:
there are TWO types of wordpress that are very different.

#1: There's the join-and-blog system at WordPress.com » Get a Free Blog Here which is totally free, and all you need to do is sign up, select a templete, and start blogging.

As with all the free sites, you could get your account closed at any time, and you are subject to all the policies of the owner of the service.

#2: The other system is where you buy your own domain name and web hosting, and install a standalone version of wordpress that you download from WordPress › Blog Tool and Publishing Platform.

Most web hosts will provide the "Fantastico" application installer, which makes the installation of Wordpress very simple.

If you are creating a "proper" website, I'd recommend going with #2. You are in total control of what you do, and are not subject to the restrictions of the wordpress.com site.

    Cheers, Eric G.
