Hi all, Have you hired freelancer in the past to do some jobs for you? What was your reaction the first time you hired a freelancer and what was your experience. Would you recommend your first freelacer to a friend?

You should check their background and previous work before hiring a freelancer.

While I agree with this, you can also give a chance "pro-bono" to a guy with no background/experience. He may be well capable of doing the job but can't get a chance to show that because people look for portfolios and experience.

To answer the original question, I was a little skeptical when using my first freelancer but it worked out fine. It's not something I regularly do but in that case everything was completed as stated.

As long as there are no red flags like crappy poorly written sales copy or bad reviews why not trust him?

If it doesn't work out you can always get your money back, and if they won't refund do a chargeback.

When I first started with my guy back in the day, I was so green that I felt I had no choice but to let him take the helm in hopes something great came out of it. Looking back I was naive but thank God it turned out ok.

My advice, make sure you do you own due diligence in terms of research, otherwise you have no one to blame but yourself.

I started as a freelancer. Based on that, I had bad experience with employers, not employees. Do not wish to sound racist but I had some issues with a certain culture existing outside of Europe. At the same time, I had one guy from Australia asking me: "How can I trust you?" which was pretty absurd given that entire task was worth 20 bucks. It all comes down to people. If guy is good, he will do his best to perform proper job, regardless where he is living. On the other hand, bad guys will screw you over for minor, one-term gain. It all depends.

Yes i did. My first freelancer i hired was for EzineArticles. Come to find out, when i submitted them to EZA.... they said i basically copied content from another site. So i asked the freelancer what the dealio was.... no response. After that, i just started writing for myself. The only thing i outsource now is graphic design.

You just have to have a backup plan! All files backed up at regular intervals. No access to domain name ownership. No access to your private email account (such as the one associated with your domain name). Special passwords created just for the freelancer. Never use passwords that you use elsewhere. Maybe in time you come to trust them more and give them more access, but even then have a backup plan.

IMO, nothing is wrong if you do the proper preparations before making up to that decision.

Have an interview proper and make sure ALL your questions are answered AND the answers should satisfy you.

Start at small things and slowly progress.

If things go wrong, then at least you learned from that experience and be better next time.

    Good luck!

    Cheers!

I outsource programming and was so happy with the results that I
gave the programmer a bonus. I'm sure outsourcing experiences
would be mixed because you are dealing with people--people tend
    to be mixed.

The first few I've worked with were horrible, but I blame myself for not doing a better job at weeding them out..

I don't remember the first time.

I've spent a lot of time and money finding good VAs.

A lot depends on the quality you are willing to accept.
