Cold Facebook traffic to capture lead magnet optin?

What do you do or think works best if running FB ads to capture leads.


1. FB ad --> lead capture button/popup on your blog/website

2. Fb ad----> thin one page clickfunnels/leadpages type capture


Maybe I am wrong but I see everyone with cold traffic doing #2. However I would tend to think more people subscribe/download the lead magnet if they trust the website they are downloading from - namely your blog/website and NOT a thin one page lander.

  • #2 will get more opt-ins (you should test the idea yourself) because there are fewer leaks.

    When sending paid traffic it is better to send to a squeeze page designed to capture email.

    By sending to a blog with a button or pop-up, there are opportunities for the person to do other things besides sign-up. They could click menu items, look for an article, read the "About" page and then leave without giving their email.

    There is no more reason to trust an unknown blog than a squeeze page.

    Once they sign up you can tell them about your blog and send hem to articles etc.

    The list can be a source of traffic for your blog.

  • You should certainly test the 2 strategies to see which gave you a better cost per conversion.

    I have reasonable success with the following method:

    1) Cold advertising to my target audience to my blog posts. There are content upgrades and exit-intent pop-up over at the blog post. You should also try to optimize your conversion at your blog post.

    2) I retarget my squeeze page to those that visit my blog posts, but did not sign up. Sometimes, I will throw in additional lead magnets as an incentive.

    So, if I have the budget, I will do the following:

    1) Cold advertising blog post; follow by retargeting campaign to those that did not sign up
    2) Cold advertising squeeze page

  • The FB ad to the squeeze page is definitely more effective (in my experience but definitely test that yourself) and is a lot quicker to build up your list…especially if it's a good squeeze page.

    What I recommend is to make 3 squeeze pages and put them on a rotator. This means that when someone clicks on the FB ad, it will go to the rotator link that will cycle through all 3 of your different squeeze pages. And if you're tracking clicks compared to opt-ins like you should be, it will tell you which of the squeeze pages converts the best. You can then scale it up from there.

    As for the trust factor, most cold traffic isn't going to trust you no matter what you send them too. That's why it's usually better to capture their email address so you can build the relationship so that they get to know, like and trust you. Then you can start marketing to them
