What are the current best ebook publication tools?

Hello:

Thank you for reading my thread. I am looking for a quick hand updating my skills. I have made a small handful of ebooks in the past, using ebook document templates and then compiling them into pdf's. Its been a few years since I made an info product and I would like to update all my old work to new versions, and start making new ones again. Any resources for ebook templates, new best practices, and a quick guide of how to access the new onjline book platforms like kindle, google play books, the apple network, etc for distribution and proper formatting for each network would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My tools for ebook publication are:

    - Microsoft Word

    - Lulu.com

Everything you stated, these 2 can handle all of them.

I love Ultimate Ebook Creator. It has too many great features to list, but one that comes to mind is how painlessly it generates your table of contents for you. Another that comes to mind: It can export in several different formats for different ebook platforms.

Many people swear by Scrivener, which you can use to format your ebooks. However, it's really aimed at people who are writing fiction and need a tool to help them plot out their book, make character profiles and so on. So that makes it a heavy-duty writing tool as well as an ebook formatter.

Both of these are paid products. I believe Scrivener is around $70 and UEC around $40, but don't quote me on that.

Some people make do with just free tools. But if you can spring for it, I would suggest going with one of these.

I own Scrivener, and if I ever give it enough time to learn it fully, I think it will be the best at creating things like "how-to" ebooks.

But, I've used Microsoft Word for so many years, and I've developed such a great process to spit out eBooks with it, it almost makes no sense to start learning Scrivener.

However, my eBook process would work just as well with Scrivener, so one day I'm gonna make some time to learn it.
