What's your number 1 internet marketing advice to designers & developers?

Most folks here at WF are the IM types. There's another, very different mindset in the tech world. They're the geeks who are obsessed about the latest and greatest in design & software engineering.

They're a different kind as they're not very keen on marketing. monetization isn't among the first 5 things they think about, when they're building a new project. They're more concerned about building beautiful digital products or engineering marvels.

What's your top advice to a designer/developer to shift their work closer to internet marketing & monetization?

Build a site for customers, not yourself.

That's my basic advice. I do see a lot of what you're mentioning these days. Where the dev team will build this site that looks great and has all the bells and whistles... but it will fail to engage their traffic because they didn't take the user experience into account when designing it.

Start outsourcing everything that concerns the design and development aspect of the project if you can. By delegating, you allow yourself to be able to concentrate more on the IM and business department which is where your focus should shift to eventually.

Remember, the real money is and has always been in understanding business and marketing from a helicopter view while delegating what can be delegated

    Hope that helps

Rise above the noise. The latest and greatest products will always be replaced in the future with others that are better, more timely, and that cater to the whims of a fickle consumer marketplace.

The best IMers that I know are the ones that understand how to stand out and be recognized in a world where marketing messages are often given a deaf ear. Designers and developers should understand that most people could care less about them and their "babies" (pet projects and masterpieces) . . . all the consumer is interested in is what will this product do for me!

1 Find something in your niche that u can sell: in your particular case, some coaching, lessons, or projects made

2 Build a List (attract traffic via developer's forum, fb ads, google ads, bing)

3 Market that List trying to sell your service
