Testing a niche with Squidoo

I am interested in entering a niche, a popular one (lets call it hair loss - its not btw) and have found a clickbank product that I am interested in. Now for all that I have been immersing myself in IM recently I have never tried this niche nor have I tried using clickbank products.

Recently I have been experimenting with using Squidoo to drive traffic to a forum I have set up (very different niche) and it has worked very well. Now as I understand it I can use clickbank codes on squidoo so I was thinking of testing the niche with 4 or 5 lenses with specific keywords, driving traffic to the offer and seeing how it converts a couple of thousand over a month or so before I dive in with both feet, hundreds of articles, list building, websites, blogs etc.

Have any of you guys tried this before? (going to take a wild stab at yes ) did it work? or have I got my logic all backwards?

    That's a good idea, but you could also use US FreeAds. The advantage there is that you don't have to write too much content, and if you find some keywords which have less then 5000 results on google, then you're all set.

    If you do use squidoo, make sure you leave the RSS Blog module (ofcourse, with content added to it) and Unmax your lens.

    You might want to try the new niche with PPC first to see if it converts at all. It's not 100% sure that you will be getting the right volume with Squidoo, although chances are you will =)

    The tip about USfreeads is a good idea too. Will you use Sqiudoo as you "website" or just a "middle man"?

    This can be important too, if you are pre-selling from the actual Squidoo page or funneling traffic to a "pre-sell page review" or something.

    Preselling initially. The idea of it being squidoo, as well as allowing affiliate links, is that they can be instantly changed so easily - so if I do enter the niche I can easily alter the links to a squeeze page to build a list first.

    I do intend to look into PPC eventually but I have never taken the plunge before and am very wary of doing it before I do proper research. I figure 10 lenses in carefully chosen keywords and a small amount of backlinking would do the job.

    Not known anything about USFreeAds before - will look into it, cheers for the heads up

    I would suggest you go forward only if you can rank for the keyword phrase you have chosen. If you can't rank for your keyword the search volume and competition is of little consequence.

    You are on the right track. I don't have tested results of my own to back that statement up. But, I can tell you that I've received the very approach you are using included in successfull systems in free and paid reports. That is systems tested and used succwessfully by others.

    I am also just getting my feet wet with a similar approach. I wish you the best.
