You Tube videos & Copyright procedures

So I want to make some Youtube videos saying "Top 10 *****" (something or other)
I see lots of videos doing this so I save the videos I'm interested in then edit the sections I want and make one video "Top 10 ******" in my Youtube Channel.

But the Youtube says I have copied them and can't monetise them.

Yet the original maker of the videos also used the "Top 10 *****" method. Was he the legal owner of the original material, don't think so!

So confused, can anyone explain what is happening please?

So let me make sure I understand what you are saying.

You took someone else's Top 10 whatever video, chopped it up a little bit and edited it. Then you uploaded it to your channel, and you are wondering why Google is saying you infringed on someone's copyright?

It's one thing when people are asking "how to" cheat and get by with it - always shocks me a bit when someone doesn't seem to KNOW what he's doing is not right.

Youtube says I have copyrighted them
Don't believe that's what Youtube told you.

You can use others people videos till a certain point. Google "fair use definition".

No, I AM NOT TRYING TO "CHEAT"

Are all youtube videos made by the person uploading them?
I didn't even realise you couldn't copy videos anyway.

Plus, you can copy the video and embed in your own web site can't you?
    So what's the difference?

No, you can't. You can embed THEIR video if they allow it in the settings of the video.

You cannot make a copy of it, upload it to your channel, and then embed it on your site.

The fact that you did not realize doesn't mean anything.

The difference is: when you embed their video in your site, you're not saying it's YOUR video, you do not alter their video, they get the credit for creating it. In other words, the difference is huge.

    Google "fair use definition".
That's why you shouldn't take legal advice form a forum.

YouTube does give advice on "fair use" but has the disclaimer that the advice won't protect you from lawsuits. That's because too often the tendency is to define 'fair use' as "any way that seems fair to me"...

Do others do what you are describing? Sure, they do - some get by with it...and some don't. Can be a frustrating and expensive lesson. Go the source and learn to protect yourself when it comes to copyrighted material.....

Create your own original video and upload it, then you will not get copyright issues.

Something wrong with your editing. It should be fine if you really know how to edit those videos you got into a complete brand new video.
