I have two large and successful blogs, but I am always looking for ways to improve them. For any bloggers here in the forum, if you could only share TWO secret tips, what would you recommend and why?

there are no secret tips for blogging, all you have to do is to write a unique content for your blog and place your keyword in between with hyperlinks.

There are millions of blog with great content that don't get noticed or make money. I believe promotion is key, in addition to building an email list and having products and services to sell that people actually want to buy.

Yes, I totally agree with you that Promotion is the key but in blogging, content is the king. If your content is not unique or good then the work done for promotion will be of no use.

Write Long Content - 800-200 words - that is future of Search Algorithms
Don't focus on Keywords Density - Write in a natural way.

    My two tips would be:

    1. Spend more time promoting your content than you do writing it
    2. Write EPIC content that is the best in your niche online, so people get a ton of value and want to link to it and share it.

Those are both great tips. Building an email list is huge. I would also chime in and say to make sure you email your list 5-7 times a week and build a relationship with them. That's something a lot of people mess up with.

Hmmm I follow Eben Pagan and he is extremely successful and he said when he built his dating company he sent e-mails Tuesday and Thursday and that's it, but yea I never check my e-mail but now that I think of it I think he might e-mail every day now, probably just different now than it was back then...

For my military blog, I have my own information products, Amazon affiliate and Adsense. I hope that helps.

You shared a good point...spend more time promoting your content than in writing more content without promotion.

A lot of new marketers believe that all they need to do is just keep writing out long 2000 or even 3000 word articles and Google will just love you and send millions of targeted visitors your way.

I wish it was that simple: just write an epic post, sit back and wait for the sales and leads to roll in. That used to be the case, but with the number of blogs competing for the same keywords online, those days are long gone.

Yes, you still need EPIC content. But, you also need to promote the heck out of it for it to get a lot of traffic. I use the 1/3-2/3 rule. Spend 1/3 of my time writing the post and 2/3 of my time promoting it.

      I hope that helps.

How do you promote it though? I thought writing blog posts were to promote your products, you write blog posts to promote your blog posts orwhat? Lol

    Chuck, nice blog.

This is no secret tip but it would be nice to have a 'dated' Archives section of your Posts on the side bar of your blog. This is really good especially if you have been around for years and have the Content in the Archives to show it.

Iam not saying that having proof of longevity (with archives on the side) automatically means that a blog is a high quality and successful one.

But honestly, age can sometimes portray a sense of wisdom and credibility. I know for me this is the first thing I look for when I visit any blog

Share them with your mailing list, simple.

share them on social-media ( 5,000 friends on FB can be very good), I use the same to get $3K - $10K per customer

Here's my two, one of which expands on one of yours...

    1. Create your posts for people, not spiders. Don't ignore SEO altogether, but if you have to make a choice between the spider and the reader, choose the reader.

    2. Spend more time promoting content than creating it. Don't be afraid to promote your older content, unless it's outdated. If it is, update it and promote again. This saves you from having to create mountains of new stuff to promote and lets you concentrate on quality, and also saves you from appearing to spam the same content over and over again.

I've never done guest posting, but will look into it. It just seemed like too much work to find someone with a high traffic, reputable blog to let you do that. I get 10-20 guest post requests a day for my blog and I ignore them all. I know many other bloggers do the same thing. What is your strategy to find blogs to guest post on?
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[11201353].message }}
  • You should write valuable content. No plagiarism, Please. You can put your link on your relevant other blog. You can do some Forum posting. Beside these put your link on Social Media site, such as Facebook, youtube, twitter. Thanks for your advance.

I just started experimenting with forum commenting. I'm starting to get some decent traffic from it. Will have to give it time and see how conversions work, and if it is worth trading my time to get the amount of visitors that I do get from leaving forum posts. Thanks for sharing.

Frankly, you are saying that your blog is successful but you want to make it more successful. Why not branch out into video. Link you blog to your YouTube Channel. Take the gist of some of your articles and use a program like Lumen5 to make them into videos. The program is free to use up to a point. About $50 a month for the paid version. I'd give a looksee if you wish to increase visitors and sales. You might also consider using some related articles and create an ebook. Sell it on JVZoo or give it away loaded with password protected advertisements.

You know, I've made several hundred YouTube videos. They get a few thousand views per month, but don't send a ton of traffic to my blog or generate sales. I've also made almost 700 podcasts. They get a few thousand downloads per month, but don't send much traffic to my blog. Any tips on making videos that will send more traffic to my blogs?

Yes. It's a variation on the content upgrade.

For those unfamiliar with the term, a content upgrade is a value-added offer typically made at the end of a blog post. For example, if you have a post on writing effective headlines, your content upgrade could be a pdf version of the post plus a one page checklist people can use to write their own headlines. The reader exchanges their email address for the pdf.

For the variation, simply put the offer of the content upgrade (which could be a transcript or an mp3 of the video's audio) at the end of the video with a link to a landing page. Once they opt in for the upgrade, put links to other posts or other tightly related content on the thank you page.

Might work even better for a podcast, with the upgrade offer/link repeated in the show notes.

    Two more tips:
    • Develop your own natural persona, voice, character - call it what you will. Be true to it and let your audience see you for who you are.
    • Ask for and encourage feedback on whatever you post. I know some successful bloggers that even reward participation. When you engage with your audience, it should be more than just a one-way dialogue. When done properly, getting feedback and responding to it sends a message to your audience that you care about them.

Thanks for sharing Steve B. I've never received as many comments as I thought I would, even though I get a ton of traffic. Perhaps, I should do a better job asking people to comment.

Your thoughts about finding your voice are spot on. It took me a while to figure mine out, but mine is a No B.S., no non-sense approach. It works great for me and my viewers like it.

Define your core audience and their favorite marketing channels

-Next step in the process is to do more research
-What content will be impactful, and which marketing channels will have the best reach. (Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, Tumblr, Blogger, Picasa, WordPress, and Facebook)

While Twitter is getting the lion's share of all the social media and microblogging sites from the press and the blogosphere, there are other alternatives.

I agree that there are no secrets in blogging. But the most important thing a blogger should do is to start blogging right. How? Choose the right niche, or anything that you are passionate about. There is a saying that, "Do a job you love, and you will never work for a day", it goes something like that.
