Quick way to check web sites?

For one of my products, I have a listing of several hundred industry contacts, most with web sites. Periodically, I need to update the entire list to make sure all the contacts are still in business, etc.

With that in mind, I'm wondering if there is some tool or automated methodology that would let me load in all of the web site URLs from my database and then hit Return to find out . . .

1. Which URLs no longer work, and

2. When each site that is still "live" was last updated.

For this, it is better to have an script where you can set to check the existence of the URL & when the site was upated etc....and you can set the time interval on that script. For this you have to hire a web programmer

I don't think there is a tool for this

There might be a script out there that automatically checks to see if they are active, however you wouldn't be able to tell if they were active as the original owner's site. They could have expired and someone picked the domain up and use it for something else.

You could probably hire someone on DP or Craigslist to do it manually for you for a few bucks.

Try Website Watcher - this will show changes on a site. WebSite-Watcher checks web pages for updates and changes - web page monitoring

Copernic has a tool too but I preferred Website Watcher. I use it for Competitive Intelligence - particulary copywriters - because if they change a page and keep it then it's probably a test worth performing on my own sites.
