Would really like your thoughts on this idea I had for learning about a niche and generating content

This though just came to mind: Possible method of researching a niche I know nothing about:
Join every forum that revolves around problems or issues people have and see how people in that area are using the niche you want to build a website around :
For example: I would like to do a website on how technology is helping mental health and physical wellness.

I'd most likely join as much forums as I can, go to their members section and find how tech has help with particular problems EX:

Hi and I'm new, My name is Brad
I'm wondering if there are any electric consoles or wearable technology that can help me get better control of my sleep. Does anyone here have any personal experience with them?
As I can imagine this can also make for creating rich and original blog post material and possibly YouTube content.

Again. I don't know shit about affiliate marketing or online entrepreneurship. I just started diving into all this shit about a week ago.... just my thoughts. Let me know what you think.

    Going to niche forums is a good idea - I've done it and I know others have, too. You can read questions people ask - stories they tell, solutions they find.

    However, joining a forum to ask fake questions is...tacky. Happens on this forum all the time and not hard to spot those posts. You don't have to do that - you can ask straight forward questions AFTER taking the time to read some of the forum threads.

    Don't make niche research so hard - it isn't that difficult. Above all, don't misuse other people (or waste their time/trust) to get info for your idea.

    Spend some time learning the basics before looking for a niche.

    Study sales funnels, email marketing, conversion techniques, traffic generation strategies, and copywriting for starters.

    A lot of people skip the basics and then wonder why they fail miserably. Ignore the people who will tell you to follow your "passion" or just take "massive action." Action without a solid foundation, a plan, and definite goals is just wasting time.

    I have to agree with Kay and Brent on this.

    Another thing you might want to consider is rather than looking for random or untapped niches to look at niches you already have knowledge about or topics, hobbies etc you already enjoy reading or doing as then it becomes a lot easier to dedicate some time to it and you'll enjoy things far more.

    Nothing more tedious than trying to go after something you have no interest in.

      Well Ozzy, I'm interested in wearable technology and I'm trying to find out as much about it as possible. I'm currently spending hours upon hours researching wearable technology from watches to clothing to certain health and fitness gadgets and products. While I'm not very versed and wearable technology it is something I find myself spending hours upon hours reading about. So I figured this would be good too try and build an online site out of. I am however concerned about how hard it might be to actually get money in the niche. I'm also wondering if the lack of ClickBank products for this niche will hinder My Success online.

        Outside the wearable stuff there is a lot going on with RFID parties and such where people get chips inserted. Some the Biohacking stuff that is going on.

        There are opportunities with RFID bracelets etc for security and managing logistics etc.

        As far as getting money in the niche it is more likely to be through sales of physical products than any info products so Clickbank wouldn't be somewhere to really have products in the niche.

        Selling products to markets where they can use the products with their members or customers say like fitness clubs, nightclubs, courier services, bars. Opportunities where a business wants to track individuals whilst using their services. Say an outdoor theme park where every attendee has to wear a wristband. The attendees pass is encoded into the wristband and any restrictions on rides etc could be encoded so smaller kids couldn't ride adult rides for example.

        You may find there are some generic products you can brand and program for a variety of end uses.

        There is one client of mine that has a medical ID product that is encoded with specific medical information for the wearer so if they have an accident or any emergency all the paramedics or medical staff can access the patient data from the device.

        They might be bigger ideas than you were first thinking of but you might find it easier to go after corporate users rather then the retail market like the fitbit, apple watch etc individual users.

          Yes this was a lot bigger than I had imagined. Sad to say it was the first time me hearing about RFID. Most of what I have researched about Fitbit, apple had been for fashion and entertainment. I want my site and platform to be about it is effecting the daily lives of the everyday person. Your post gives a clear example of the direction I want to go in. You clearly outlined a detailed example of a target market and a product that meets the demand of that target market.

    Clickbank is only one source of affiliate products and not necessarily the best...you don't have to sell CB products to succeed online.

    That's one thing to research - where the money IS in 'wearable technology'. I would think more likely to be in physical products than info products - perhaps CPA would be an option. Part of the research - finding out where people are spending money in 'wearable technology'. Interesting subject with potential growth likely in the future.

    Does this strategy sound fun to you? Doesn't seem like it, because it looks inauthentic or manipulative to me.

    I will drive unhappy, resistant Warriors crazy because I like doing this LOL; follow your passion dude. Meaning, start by thinking about something that feels really fun to you, business-wise. Then you can do all that research bullsh** that people here obsess over. That's a joke. The research is necessary, but if you do it as a first step, you'll be kinda average, or ordinary, and I chose not to take that route a decade ago, and must say, live a life that is pretty far from ordinary.

    When you ENJOY exploring a business idea, you will ENJOY doing the research, study and learning, and that is the right space for starting your business. That's what many Warriors miss; they actually have fun doing the legwork, but are totally unaware of it. Or they are silly masochists. I am still not sure

      It is manipulative yes, but how else am I supposed to get the information from consumers who are using this in their everyday lives? I'm sure one day I will get to a level wear I will be buying the technology I am reviewing so it makes a bit easier to create content from a personal standpoint. I suppose I should just go in the forum and tell them I'm trying to collect information on how they use their products so I can make a blog. I am trying to find fun stuff about the topic, but at the same time how else am I supposed to produce original content that no one else has? I could recycle every other article about the technology but that would seem manipulative to and lazy.

      I want to know how the technology effects:

      Relationships, eating ,sleeping, education, partying, recreation, drug use, art, culture, health and fitness.... etc

      How else do you propose I do this if I don't talk to real people who are already using it?

    So ask them. Just be straightforward about it. As Kay mentioned don't be fake or pretend to be something you're not. Tell people you are doing research. Most people like to talk about themselves and the things they use especially if it's bringing them some relief or improving their quality of life, or if it doesn't live up to the claims.

    Your thread is quite interesting. I am a freelance writer and run a dropshipping store. Whenever I run out of ideas for my blog or have difficulty settling upon a niche, I go for this technique.

    I mean what would be better than writing based on real users opinion, suggestions and get user-generated content for future posts. Indeed, a great thread!

    Learn EVERYTHING you possibly can. Surround yourself with people smarter than you and learn from them.

    Getting a mentor is probably the best thing you can do for yourself.

    Here's something no one has mentioned; in fact, it's rarely mentioned at all.

    Look at what real research is going on as far as wearable tech. Are there academic studies you can read? Articles in professional journals? Even clinical trials for new products?

    Without looking, I'd bet that there are more than a few when it comes to addiction, anger management, PTSD, and other chronic conditions. Also with disease management, such as blood sugar monitoring and insulin pump release for diabetes.

    As far as making money goes, there's a big world out there beyond Clickbank. Build an audience, build an email list, and you open new possibilities with things like sponsored posts, solo ads to your list, physical products, maybe affiliate with health-related newsletters.
