Is "Fun Things Reviews" Too general for a Youtube business?

So I plan on doing short reviews on fun things: Everything from children's toys to Disney park rides (I live near the parks in Florida). I want to build a following on my channel and I'm wondering if the focus is too broad. As for the product reviews, I plan to link to Amazon as an affiliate, otherwise, just build my following enough to start monetizing my youtube channel.

Can it work?

Also, is "Fun Things Reviews" a good brand, or shall it be more personable like "JD's Fun Channel" ?

JD, the only way I can see something this broad working for you is if you have the kind of personality that people either love or hate. Then it's about you more than about 'fun things.'

Since you are near the Disney parks, why not try something more focused, like other things to do in Orlando (there must be something, despite what D would have you believe ) or hidden things to do inside the parks (someone I know took a morning off from standing in line to go bass fishing in one of the private ponds, for example).

As they say, if you try to appeal to everybody, you end up appealing to nobody.

    LDB,

Who is your audience, how do you know what they are willing to buy, and where will you contact them (for your marketing)?

Can your ideas work? The whole reason for doing research into your audience and niche is so you will have a good idea, before you spend time and money on starting a business, that your plan can work.

Yes, you have read about a few people that have earned millions reviewing toys and blogging about fun things to do. These people that defied the odds are exceptions. There are thousands of failures that didn't work out tying exactly the same thing - but you never read about these sad stories.

The fact is . . . your success will depend upon YOU. You are the business. You will make all the difference. Do you have what it takes?

Put the odds in your favor by focusing on your audience. Design your business around the people you want to serve. Study them and you will learn what they will spend money on.

    The very best to you,

    Steve

You should test it. This is just as valid of a question as of whether or not you should use double confirm opt-in vs non-double confirm. Sounds like your heart is in this direction. So more than likely despite Steve's and John's comments.... you're going to do it anyway lol

I guess I should just test it. My edge is that I have professional high-end video production equipment and an acting background. I've seen successful toy channels that lack basic video production techniques.

I think your way is so creative. You should try it because each person has a private way to do internet marketing.

You need to narrow down who the fun things are for. Children, Adults, women, men, etc.

The truth is that our two cents don't really matter in this instance.

The only variable of note, is if you're willing to put in the required work to test for feasibility.

So, allow me to inquire; are you willing and ready to put your plan into action?

First off I think that it is a b ad idea to market different concepts on one channel ,it is confusing to your viewers . Secondly ,I think you should drill down meaning be more specific as to what you will be reviewing instead of being so broad.

Test it out and see for yourself. It might be a little too general but if it works, it works.

I made my first video and I'll be uploading it really soon. I'm happy with it, and I'll keep you updated on the progress of my channel. For now I'm primarily monetizing as an Amazon Affiliate.

      P.S.
If it's younger People you want to help ... Then maybe something like: "JD's Top 33 Toys ... (That Will Make Your Kids Super Smart.)"

See the difference? When you're more specific -- you will be more perssaivise and more appealing with your idea/concept.

I would consider focusing on a partiular market/demographic. Maybe something like: "JD's Top 101 Fun Things To Do In Your 30's ..." (or something similar to that).

Just an idea. Good luck with it.
